One man is in custody while another is fighting for life after a shooting that sent a semi-rural community into lockdown.

Emergency workers rushed to the scene of the accident in Wooroloo, 55 kilometers east of Perth’s central business district, about 9am on Saturday after reports that a man in his 30s had been shot in the head.

Residents were warned to stay indoors and lock their doors while specialist officers responded to the incident and later arrested another man, who is currently being interviewed.

The police have now confirmed that there is no longer a direct threat to public safety.

Inspector Vic Hussey said the police Tactical Response Group and canine unit had been trying to track down other men suspected of being involved.

“With regard to the other individuals who have entered the bush, their whereabouts are unknown at this stage, but we strongly believe there is no threat to the community from these individuals,” he said.

No charges have been laid at this stage.

Inspector Hussey said he could not confirm whether the victim and the man currently in custody knew each other.

“There are a lot of moving parts in this investigation right now,” he said.

“So I can’t comment on that.”
