Denise Govendir: $1million reward offered after mum bashed to death by mystery attacker who broke into her home in exclusive Sydney suburb 25 years ago

A $1 million reward is being offered for information into the murder of Sydney woman Denise Govendir 25 years ago.

Early on March 10, 1998, emergency services responded to reports of a home invasion in Dover Heights in Sydney’s eastern suburbs, where they found the 53-year-old’s body.

Police were told that the residents, Ms Govendir and a 55-year-old man, had been attacked by a man who broke into their home claiming to be a police officer.

It is alleged the unidentified man punched the 55-year-old man and rendered him unconscious before restraining him with cable ties.

He then allegedly seriously assaulted Ms Govendir, who died from her injuries.

The alleged perpetrator fled the scene in her car: a white 1997 Ford Laser sedan.

The 55-year-old resident called the police after regaining consciousness.

A subsequent coronial inquest held between 2005 and 2008 confirmed that Ms Govendir died as a result of blunt force head injuries inflicted by an unknown person or persons.

The NSW Police Unsolved Homicide Unit is continuing the investigation and the state government on Friday announced a renewed appeal for information with a $1 million reward.
