  • An elderly bus driver was caught beating and choking a young student
  • Terrified children beg him to stop, including warning he’s ‘going to jail’
  • The driver, 77, has since resigned and the investigation is still ongoing

Shocking footage captured the moment an elderly bus driver punched and choked a Louisiana high school student as children screamed for him to stop.

The driver, who has not yet been identified, was captured on video by a terrified student on the bus and has since resigned in disgrace from bus contractor First Student.

It is unclear what caused the incident, with footage beginning with the bus driver lightly pushing the student back into his seat.

The student stands up and appears to try to leave his seat, causing the bus driver to push him again before shockingly hitting him in the head.

After the child shoved the bus driver in response, the 77-year-old then appears to push him against the bus window and allegedly strangle him.

Stunned students could be heard pleading for the driver to release the child, with one shouting: “Get off him.”

“You’re going to jail,” another student adds.

The driver was employed by First Student, one of the nation’s largest school bus contractors, which transports approximately 2.5 million students every day.

The company confirmed that after learning of the incident, the driver resigned on Tuesday.

This was announced by a spokesperson for the contractor Fox8: ‘At First Student we take our responsibility to create a safe environment on our school buses very seriously.

‘The interaction the driver had with the student was unacceptable. He has resigned. As this is an active investigation, we cannot comment further.”

The school district that hired the bus company, Jefferson Parish Schools, also released a statement in response to the disturbing images.

“We are aware of an incident that occurred on Oct. 30 on the Marrero Middle School campus between a first-time student bus driver and a student,” the statement said.

“The bus driver is not an employee of Jefferson Parish Schools. The safety and well-being of our students is our top priority, and JP Schools will continue to facilitate a safe learning environment for all students and employees. We are working with JPSO to ensure a thorough investigation is conducted.”

A spokesperson for the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office said it has not made any arrests, although the juvenile division is reportedly still investigating.
