Spell-slinging FPS Immortals of Aveum to get bumper free content update
Immortals of Aveum will receive a free update that will be released on November 16. Called “The Echocollector,” this update promises new content, gear and lore, in addition to a New Game+ mode and an extremely challenging Grand Magnus difficulty setting.
More details were revealed about the details of the upcoming patch in an EA press release. “’The Echocollector’ Content Update is a new endgame goal for players who want more lore and content to continue playing once they reach later chapters.”
The update introduces “portals to new, undiscovered areas” where players will battle “malicious forces” in a “new boss battle.” Succeeding will unlock new knowledge to experience and equipment to take with you on your travels through the Everwar.
The update also includes a New Game+ mode and a tough new Grand Magnus difficulty level. New Game+ works as you’d expect, allowing you to carry over “most spells and abilities” to a new playthrough, while also allowing you to upgrade your Epic and Legendary gear to new heights. The new mode also features “rebalanced enemy health, damage and skills” to keep the campaign challenging for returning players.
The new difficulty setting is fairly easy and promises players “a whole new level of challenge” where “every battle will be a battle for survival.” Grand Magnus difficulty will be available in both New Playthroughs and New Game+.
Despite ambitious plans for the game’s setting and characters, Immortals of Aveum was launched in August to a mixed reception. In our review, we called the game “a near miss” with a “stunning world and unique concept” that weren’t quite enough to “make up for the game’s slow pace and disjointed combat.”
The game’s poor sales also resulted in the dismissal of almost 45% of the staff Immortals of Aveum developer Ascendant Studios. CEO Bret Robbins called the layoffs a “painfully difficult, but necessary decision.”
That said, for those who enjoyed the game, the Echocollector update promises to add new ways to enjoy the visually distinctive FPS.
