This Morning viewers got emotional as they watched James Blunt perform his moving new song about the loss of his baby daughter.

The singer-songwriter, 49, and wife Sophie, 40, who live mainly in Ibiza, married in 2014 and are parents to two sons. However, the couple tragically lost their daughter.

James spoke openly about his personal life with hosts Josie Gibson and Rylan Clark on Wednesday’s show.

Speaking about a song he wrote about family life, he said: “I write songs about the people I have to take care of. I am married to a wonderful person and we have ambitions to start a family, some of those ambitions we have achieved and some we have not.

“There are losing battles that we struggle with. I deal with it by writing songs about it. One of those songs is called The Girl That Never Was.’

In a recent interview with The Sun, James emphasized that his wife is responsible for his busy lifestyle.

The singer splits his time between London and Ibiza, and explained that although people are always asking him when he’s going to settle down, he’s just trying to keep up with his wife Sofia.

“And I’m lucky that I met someone who was working at a faster pace than me and instead of settling down, I had to speed up.

‘I wish I could say I was still in the clubs in Ibiza all the time.

“But maybe that’s why I put a nightclub at the end of my garden, so that the 30-yard stumble back to my bed is more manageable.”

The couple have been married since 2014 and in 2018 they saved their local Chelsea pub, The Fox and Pheasant, from closure.

The star joked that the licensing agreement states that no James Blunt music can be played.

Elsewhere during his This Morning interview, James promoted his new album, tour and book.

He said, “If everyone just buys everything, I’ll finally give up and leave the country. You won’t hear from me again, I promise.

About the making of the new album, James jokingly said: ‘David Guetta was in the studio next door in Ibiza, so I was just dropping him off on the way.’

About the book, he added: “There is a sentence: Everyone has one book in them and I should have kept it in me. It’s loosely mentioned based on a made-up story so no lawyer gets in touch.”

About his next tour, he said: “A lot of people in their 20s come and I’m not sure why. I think they had to listen to my music growing up and they don’t like it, but they just know the music.”

James is one of the most talked-about and controversial pop stars of his generation.

And now the singer releases his new hilarious feature documentary, which shows a real insight into the pop star with all the access footage.

Filmed on the road in 2022 on what James describes as his ‘Greatest Hit Tour’, director Chris Atkins captures the star as he travels through Europe.

A cross between Spinal Tap and Alan Partridge, the film features ‘You’re Beautiful’ chanting anti-vaxxers in New Zealand, an encounter with an overzealous fan and plenty of awkward interviews.

The film also hears from his long-suffering crew who have been stuck on the road with him for almost two decades, including his wonderfully brooding tour manager who describes James as a “narcissistic psychopath.”

The sneak peak clips released showcase James’ bizarre wit and dry humor as he hits the road.

About the film, James said: ‘I was hoping to come across as the English equivalent of Tom Cruise. It didn’t really turn out that way.’

In a hilarious clip, BBC newsreaders report from an anti-vaxxer protest in New Zealand, where authorities try to use the ‘Barry Manilow effect’ by playing the singer’s hits in an attempt to deter the protesters .

When the Cococabana hitmaker fails to fend off the protesters, James himself tweets the New Zealand police, suggesting: ‘Give me a shout if this doesn’t work’.

What delivers is the crowd of protesters belting out James’ 2005 hit “You’re Beautiful” as they danced together in the rain.

Seeing the images, James exclaims, “They were dancing and singing along. The truth is… they liked it.

“They’re really damned, aren’t they?! They are anti-vaxx and they are pro Blunt.”

James became one of the most talked-about ‘rise and fall and rise’ stories of his time. The film delves into James’ unique backstory and looks at the star’s time in the military.

The singer served in NATO peacekeeping forces during the 1999 Kosovo civil war and the film features incredible, unseen footage of the conflict that James filmed on a home video camera.

The film then documents James’s unlikely rise to superstardom in 2005 with the best-selling album of the 1990s – and how it quickly led to a vicious media backlash.

For the first time, the singer has opened up about his feelings about being labeled the “most hated man in pop” and the target of countless “kiss and tell” stories in the tabloids.

In a satirical interview with his tour manager Robert Hayden, he describes James as a typical rock star, a “narcissistic psychopath,” before adding, “that’s why they’re successful.”

“If you read the book Psychopath Test, some of them turn out to be serial killers, some of them pop stars.”

When asked if he reads his own reviews, James replies, “Um, I write most of them myself and post my own reviews online under pseudonyms, because how else am I going to get a good review?”

As he explores how he became a national treasure via Twitter, the star is loved by his followers and is approached by an overzealous fan while in the Isle of Man.
