St Lucy’s School in Wahroonga: Boy, 10, dies at disabled school after being crushed by a lift

A 10-year-old student has died after being crushed by a lift at a school for the disabled in Sydney’s northwest.

Emergency services were called to St Lucy’s School for Students with Disabilities in Wahroonga at 2pm on Wednesday following reports that a child was seriously injured on campus.

The school educates both primary and secondary school students with autism, sensory impairments and mild to severe intellectual disabilities.

Police officers from the Kuring-Gai Police Area Command arrived and found the boy trapped under a lift.

Fire and rescue services were able to free the boy, but he died at the scene.

NSW Police remain on campus and have set up a crime scene in an attempt to find out what happened.

The department said that in addition to their investigation, a recovery operation is continuing and such there is no ongoing danger to the public as a result of the incident.

A report will be prepared for the coroner.
