Hawthorn hit-and-run: Nine-year-old injured and driver arrested after fleeing the scene

A child has been injured following an alleged collision after two cars collided, causing one of the vehicles to land on its side.

The accident happened around 7am on Wednesday on Auburn Road in Hawthorn, about 10 kilometers east of Melbourne.

The nine-year-old child was riding in a BMW X5 SUV with the driver of the vehicle at the time.

A driver of a Volkswagen sedan apparently collided with the BMW, causing the car to flip on its side.

The child and driver were rushed to hospital after the pair suffered minor injuries.

After the accident, the driver of the Volkswagen reportedly fled on foot.

Victoria Police found the 41-year-old driver a short time later on Auburn Road before he was arrested.

The man, believed to be from Noble Park, in Melbourne’s south-east, is said to be assisting officers with their investigation.
