Matt Hancock opens up about his ‘unpleasant’ experience on Celebrity SAS ahead of series final: ‘It was really one of the most difficult things I’ve ever done’

Matt Hancock has opened up about his ‘unpleasant’ experience on Celebrity SAS ahead of the series finale.

The former health secretary, 45, has reached the final five alongside Danielle Lloyd, Gareth Gates, Perri Shakes-Drayton and Teddy Soares.

It’s his second appearance on reality TV after starring on the I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out Of Here! final in 2022.

Hancock has once again completed the full competition and will appear in the seventh and final episode of the reality quasi-military training show in Vietnam this Sunday.

In the tough finale, called INTERROGATION, the celebrities must undergo the final physical and mental test as they feel weak from the rigors of the show.

Ahead of the finale, the MP opened up about the challenges of filming the show last year.

He said: ‘It really was one of the hardest things I have ever done and a very unpleasant experience.

“The only way to get through it was to keep the same attitude I had throughout the course, to just hang around for a few more minutes, even if the interrogators tried to rush me.”

In the series finale, titled INTERROGATION, the famed recruits are captured by an elite Hunter Force deep in the Vietnamese jungle.

They have been stripped of their clothing and belongings and placed in custody in preparation for fourteen hours of interrogation techniques – the most grueling challenge yet.

Matt’s co-star, former Miss GB Danielle, agreed on the intensity of the experience, saying: ‘That was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever done. Forget the heights and stuff like that.

‘This was intense. The sounds literally make your head rise. I hadn’t eaten, I was wet, it was cold. It was just so hard to stay awake and stay focused.

‘You are physically exhausted, but also mentally exhausted. There were so many times when I almost quit.’

In recent episodes, Matt left Celebrity SAS viewers in hysterics when he asked how much paracetamol he could take – despite his role as Health Minister in the global pandemic.

He was forced to ask TOWIE star Amber Turner what the maximum dose was and replied ‘eight’.

But Matt was still confused and asked, “Is that the recommended or the maximum?”

Viewers were quick to notice the irony, with one writing: ‘Oh wow, I just heard right, ex-health secretary #MattHancock doesn’t know how many painkillers he can take in a day!!’

In another scene in Sunday night’s episode, Matt was interviewed by a Liz Truss lookalike, who blasted his ‘moobs’ and ‘chest pubes’ and said he’s ‘not a good looking man’.

In the clip, he is forced to stand in just his underwear as the interrogator named Debs shouts, “You’re a fucking king aren’t you.” You are a man who likes to stay on his feet for a while.

‘I’ll tell you something that really fascinates me. I find it really fascinating, because with all due respect, you’re not a good-looking guy, are you?’

Once again, viewers were amazed by the surprising performance of the former parliamentary minister.

Speaking about his time on the show, Matt previously said: ‘Being on SAS was like nothing else I’ve ever experienced. It’s one of the hardest physically and mentally things I’ve ever done.

‘It really opens your eyes and lets you look inside yourself. After enduring the most challenging period as Minister of Health during the pandemic, I wanted to push my limits. It’s safe to say that the course tested my resilience!’

The seventh and final episode of Celebrity SAS: Who Dares Wins airs on Sunday, November 5 at 9pm on Channel 4.
