  • Nixon has now been called up for a boxing fight

Ricky Nixon was left bloodied after a bizarre fight with Sam Newman behind the sheds of a local cricket club, and now former Sydney Swans star Warwick Cooper wants to get involved in the fighting.

Earlier this week it was reported that Nixon, 60, and Newman, 77, were involved in a scandal at an event at the Somerville Cricket Club on Melbourne’s Mornington Peninsula.

It is believed the fight was over money, with Newman accusing Nixon of shortchanging him over his performance at the sports club luncheon.

The pair are high-profile figures in AFL circles and are known for their controversial lives after their playing careers.

Newman has had a successful TV career and continues to make headlines with his controversial opinions on his podcast.

Nixon built a lucrative career as a players’ agent after playing for St Kilda and Hawthorn, but found himself in trouble with the law over several offences, including an alleged sexually inappropriate relationship with a 17-year-old girl.

The fight between Newman and Nixon took place behind the sheds of the local cricket club and Nixon started bleeding when he was hit by Newman.

“He didn’t hit me, I think he hit me in the face,” Nixon told News Corp.

‘What happened was I had a pimple that morning (Friday), which is quite rare for me, and he hit the pimple and it started bleeding… but he also pushed me into a bush.’

Nixon admitted that he entered a $3,000 payment for Newman into a spreadsheet, which was actually intended to be divided between the couple.

“Sam wrote in his diary that he got $3,000. To be honest, I put it in a spreadsheet of bookings to him that it was $3000, but I meant it was for the two of us. I would never sell him short,” Nixon said.

He added that he learned a startling lesson after the altercation.

“It also taught me something: neither he nor Warwick Capper can’t fight, so they have to do what they do best.”

Capper has now responded and called Nixon for a boxing fight.

“I’ll have Sam Newman in my corner and we’ll see who can’t fight,” Capper said.

“Red-faced Nixon ripped Sam off and then criticizes me… lamely.”

Nixon and Capper fell out over failed plans for a joint birthday party this year.
