A semi-truck crashed straight into the back of a trailer full of $100,000 worth of fireworks parked on a highway shoulder in Canada.

The collision created a spark that then ignited the fireworks, creating a dazzling display that lasted more than an hour on the side of the road in Hope, British Columbia.

This incident occurred last Thursday around 10 p.m. on the Trans-Canada Highway east of Vancouver, when the truck crashed into the trailer that was being towed by a pickup truck at the time.

Incredibly, both drivers were able to get out of their respective vehicles without too much damage, although one was taken to hospital with minor injuries.

Drivers traveling along the highway at the time were able to capture spectacular footage as the fireworks went off all at once in a scene of complete chaos.

The silhouette of the massive semi-truck could be seen as fireworks shot into the night sky, while whooshing, popping and whooshing could be heard all around it.

Other drivers were able to capture video of the chaos as the explosives went off all at once and many of them managed to rise above the tree line.

Cpl. Carmen Kiener of Chilliwack RCMP said the incident closed Highway 1 eastbound for an hour until the fireworks finally stopped.

“The fireworks were obviously quite a spectacle for passersby,” she said CBC.

“It almost felt like the Fourth of July,” added Sgt. Mike Sargent.

“It was one of those moments where it takes a few minutes to process what we see in front of us,” Kendra Bergen said CityNews. ‘It was definitely a spectacle, one I’ve never seen before.

“It was that roller coaster of emotions of the excitement of a fireworks show that was greater than I’ve ever seen in my life, this is the wrong place, the wrong time, it shouldn’t be happening here, and then worrying about the driver of the vehicle and everyone else involved when we realized this was likely to impact some people,” she said.

It is not clear where the fireworks were transported and for whom they were intended.
