Lalor, Melbourne: Helpless puppy Boss is bashed to death by an intruder in a ‘targeted’ attack police say is ‘too distressing’ to describe

A defenseless puppy has been beaten to death in a sickening act of animal cruelty that investigators say is ‘too harrowing’ to describe.

Three-month-old blue-nosed Staffy Boss was killed on September 30 after a mysterious intruder gained entry to their family home on Station Street, in Lalor, in Melbourne’s north.

Police believe it was a ‘targeted’ attack and that the perpetrator pointed the security cameras at the backyard before attacking one of the family’s three dogs.

Boss’s traumatized owner Martin returned home from work at the Melbourne Royal Show with his 15-year-old son to find blood in the backyard.

The family’s other dogs, another blue-nosed Staffy puppy named Diesel and a Staffy cross named Bella, escaped unharmed.

Recounting the moment he and his son discovered the horrific scene, Martin said: ‘There was blood everywhere in the back garden, as if he had tried to escape. The poor thing’.

“It really sucks to lose a dog, it’s like losing a family member,” he told 9News.

His son is now too scared to leave the house at night and has changed bedrooms.

Martin has also installed more security cameras aimed around the house in case another attack occurs.

Detective Senior Constable Matt Mckenzie described the incident as ‘extremely shocking’.

“Boss suffered significant head trauma and died as a result of those injuries,” he said.

‘I won’t describe in detail what happened next because it is truly harrowing. But Boss’ body was then attacked even more severely.’

Police aren’t sure why the intruder targeted Boss.

Snr. Const Mckenzie said he believed someone in the community knows the identity of who attacked Boss.

“Everyone who passed through Station Street on the big final day, I asked them to think back to that day,” he said, according to the ABC.

He asked anyone who saw anything suspicious on Station Street or at nearby Lalor train station to contact Crime Stoppers.
