Shepparton crash: Pregnant mum loses baby in three car collision that killed five-year-old girl

A grieving mother will spend months recovering in hospital after losing her unborn child in a devastating car crash that also killed a young girl.

Elodie Aldridge, who was 34 weeks pregnant, was involved in the crash at the intersection of Old Dookie and Boundary Roads in Shepparton, Victoria, last Friday.

A silver Toyota LandCruiser crashed into a black Ford Territory and a white Toyota LandCruiser killed five-year-old Savannah Kemp.

Ms Aldridge, 32, was taken from the wreckage of her black Ford Territory to the Royal Melbourne Hospital, where she was told she had lost her child.

Mrs Aldridge was returning from an appointment with her obstetrician and was delivering lunch to her husband when she was involved in the accident.

The horror crash involved two Toyota Landcruisers and a Ford area and took place at the junction of Old Dookie Road and Boundary Road in Shepparton last Friday.

Mrs Aldridge’s friend Amanda Parker has one GoFundMe which shows that the mother has undergone extensive surgery and will remain in hospital for the coming months.

Mrs Aldridge and her partner Andrew were expecting a second child on December 2.

“Sadly, upon arrival at hospital by air ambulance, they were told the unimaginable and devastating news that no parent or family member should ever have to hear – Elodie and Andrew’s little baby had grown wings and was in the hands of heaven above,” said Mrs. Parker.

The tragedy left behind “a caring and loving mother, a hardworking and devoted father, and a cheerful and excited brother-to-be.”

“Elodie has undergone extensive surgery and is still in hospital with Andrew by her side,” Mrs Parker said.

‘Elodie will have to stay in hospital for weeks, if not months, before she can be discharged home. Elodie will have a long road to recovery ahead of her.”

Mrs Aldrige and her partner Andrew, who married just six weeks ago, have a seven-year-old son Zac.

“Let this be a reminder to hold your loved ones close and cherish them dearly,” Mrs. Parker said.

The fundraiser was set up to reduce the financial pressure on the family.

Ms Parker pledged that any unspent money would be “re-donated to people in need, the hospitals, Red Nose Australia, others going through what we are going through now.”

Mr. Aldridge told it 7News their son Zac was excited to meet his new brother.

“He and his brother had a strong bond,” he said.

Ms Aldridge thanked her community for their continued support during the difficult time.

“We don’t know many people, but they were fantastic,” she said.

Last Sunday, Savannah’s mother Bryana Kemp told Daily Mail Australia that her only daughter, who died next to a silver Toyota LandCruiser, was “the most precious, sassy little girl.”

“She had the biggest heart that was always full of laughter. She never walked anywhere, she danced or skipped. She was so brave and fearless, she learned that from her brothers.

“Nothing bothered her.”

Savannah would start kindergarten at Guthrie Street Primary School with her three older brothers in 2024.

Her mother said: ‘She has been wearing her school uniform around the house for weeks because she was so excited to go to school.

“She went to her first orientation a week or so ago and actually had to wear it.”

The youngster wanted to become a ‘fearless ballerina and footballer’ and had been ‘training’ in the garden with her brothers for weeks before the crash took her life.

“My sweet little baby, if I had the chance, I would have ruled this world,” Mrs. Kemp wrote.

“She was destined for great things.”
