Gwyneth Paltrow reveals how her second husband Brad Falchuk helped her overcome her ‘fear of intimacy’
Gwyneth Paltrow has revealed how her second husband opened her heart to the possibility of falling in love again.
Speaking to a packed crowd on stage at the Besties event in Sydney on Friday evening, the American actress, 51, explained that her husband Brad Falchuk, 52, helped her overcome her vulnerabilities.
When asked if she was afraid to open her heart again, Gwyn told the audience she was “petrified.”
“I think I’m someone who is afraid of intimacy anyway,” the Shakespeare in Love star explained.
“So some of the boyfriends I chose in my life were people who weren’t fully capable of intimacy and that way you can say, ‘Oh (they’re the ones with the problem). I’m ready and they’re not.’

“That’s just a clever way of not admitting that you’re the one you know. And sometimes I’m still scared.’
Despite being married for half a decade, Gwyn said these are issues she still struggles with.
“We’ve been married for five years and sometimes I think, ‘This is hard to be so vulnerable.’ He demands total intimacy and openness, so it’s always an exercise for me,” she said.
“Generally you’re reenacting the relationship you had with the most complicated parent.”

Gwyn added: ‘I’ve been very lucky with Brad because I have great chemistry with him and he’s my best friend. He cares so much about the quality of our relationship.
‘Second marriages can be very special.’
The star went on to explain that there is still a lot of spark in the marriage and that she thinks she looks “hot.”
‘It’s hard to put into words. He has such a grounding presence. He is sweet. He always says, you’re 51 and you’re in the shower and he’s like, ‘You’re so hot and I’m like, ‘No, I’m definitely not,’ but he thinks so,” she said.
The couple celebrated their milestone fifth anniversary in September.
They started dating four years before tying the knot in 2018, four years after they first met when Gwyneth made an Emmy-winning guest star appearance as teacher Holly Holiday on Glee in 2010.
