Nonna’s House: The ultimate foodie hidden gem hides behind this gate in Melbourne’s inner city suburbs

Behind an unassuming side door, in the middle of the suburbs, lies a hidden gem that foodies flock to.

A brown brick wall contains a gate labeled 550, the entrance to an authentic Italian eatery called Nonna’s House in the inner-city Melbourne suburb of Fitzroy North.

Nonna’s House serves delicious Italian sub sandwiches with an array of tasty fillings that leave guests wanting more.

There is no formality to this casual eatery with cardboard signs and a hole in the wall stud at the back of a residential home.

Those lucky enough to get in before the sandwiches sell out can enjoy a delicious menu of subs or tramezzinos and loaded fries.

A fan favorite is the classic meatball sub with four juicy meatballs cooked in a traditional tomato sauce or sugo and topped with grated Parmesan cheese.

Other sandwiches include chicken pesto or vegetarian pesto mushroom and eggplant parma.

As a side dish there are also portions of seasoned fries and bolognese or carbonara-loaded fries.

The Italian-Australian authenticity extends beyond the food, as guests feel like they are sitting in their nonna’s backyard as they devour their tramezzino.
