Republican Arkansas gubernatorial hopeful Sarah Huckabee Sanders said Friday she had undergone surgery for thyroid cancer — but planned to continue in her run for governor.

“During a checkup earlier this month, my doctor ordered a biopsy of a worrying area on my neck and the test showed I had thyroid cancer,” the former White House press secretary said in a statement. “Today I had a successful surgery to remove my thyroid and surrounding lymph nodes and by the grace of God I am now cancer free.”

Sanders thanked her doctors and nurses and said she plans to return to the campaign trail “soon.”

Sanders’ diagnosis comes after Jared Kushner, the son-in-law of former President Donald Trump and a former top White House adviser, revealed he battled thyroid cancer during the last administration.

Ivanka Trump’s 41-year-old husband wrote about his battle with cancer in… Breaking History, A White House Memoirwhich was released last month.

A Sanders doctor told the Associated Press he expected the hopeful governor to be back on his feet within 24 hours.

After the surgery, Dr. John R. Sims that the ex-White House spokeswoman will require adjuvant radioiodine treatment and long-term monitoring.

“I think it’s fair to say she’s cancer-free now, and I don’t expect this to slow her down,” Sims said.

Sanders is the daughter of former Arkansas governor Mike Huckabee, who was a two-time Republican candidate for president.

She worked for her father’s presidential campaign before becoming a Trump campaign aide during his bid in 2016.

She became White House press secretary in July 2016, following the resignation of Sean Spicer.
