Jacob Elordi models a long coat in NYC after revealing how he got into character to play Elvis for Priscilla: ‘I’ve heard EVERY recorded word he ever said’

Jacob Elordi channeled Elvis in a long black coat and sunglasses as he left the Today show in New York City on Tuesday morning.

The actor is promoting his new film Priscilla, in which he plays Jailhouse Rock singer Elvis Presley.

The film delves into Elvis’ romance with Priscilla Presley when she was a young teenager, through their marriage and when they welcomed daughter Lisa Marie Presley.

During his chat on Today, Jacob – best known for his Kissing Booth films – revealed how he got into character.

‘I have a deep voice,” he began. “I think I’ve heard every recorded word Elvis Presley ever said and I just have it in my head,” added Kaia Gerber’s ex (whose current boyfriend Austin Butler has also played Elvis).

About the late singer’s mannerisms, he added: “Yes, when you see him move and speak, there’s an energy that comes from somewhere deep, deep inside him, so I tried to do it all the time – because I’m a little a little clumsier and clumsier than him, so I tried to find that charisma in your hips.”

Sofia Coppola directs the film based on Priscilla’s 1985 memoir, Elvis And Me. Cailee Spaeny, 26, plays Priscilla.

Elvis lived from 1935 to 1977.

The biopic follows the volatile relationship between Elvis and Priscilla, now 78, who met when she was just 14 and he was 24.

They married in 1967 and had daughter Lisa Marie the following year, before divorcing in 1973.

He also shared that watching the new Priscilla biopic Priscilla felt “invasive” – and admitted he felt a little “stiff” while sitting next to her Venice Film Festival premiere in September.

He told Hoda Kotb on Tuesday’s Today show: “Watching the movie with Priscilla in Venice was completely surreal and watching her life play out through her eyes was completely surreal.”

Hoda, 59, said: “It must have been wild for you. I mean, you play Elvis in this movie.”

Jacob replied, “Yes. It felt a little invasive, so I was sitting there a little stiff.”

During their interview, Jacob also praised his co-star Cailee, calling her “an incredibly talented actress.”

“She was my best friend while we were filming,” he said. ‘Yes, I really needed that support, as someone who believed in me.’

He went on to explain how he got the role, revealing that he received an email asking him to participate in a breakfast with Sofia.

“I had just gotten an email saying Sofia Coppola wanted to have breakfast,” he recalls.

“So I went to the Beverly Hills Hotel and had breakfast with her. She didn’t mention it.

“But a few weeks later I had the audition slides in my email and it just said ‘Elvis’ and that was it.”

He told Hoda Kotb on the Today show on Tuesday: ‘Watching the film with Priscilla in Venice was completely surreal and seeing her life played out through her eyes’

Sofia revealed that Priscilla had been ‘complimentary’ for her work, although she was initially ‘cautious’ about the project.

Speaking to W Magazine, she said: ‘(Priscilla) was open and complimentary about my work, but she was a bit cautious.

‘I sent Priscilla the script, and she went through it page by page and gave me specific details, like ‘I didn’t have a teddy bear on my bed.’

‘But I ended up reinventing a few things, like Elvis’ bedroom. I wanted him to have a man cave, very dark and mysterious.”

But not everyone was as enthusiastic: members of Elvis’ estate criticized the project, calling Sofia’s writing and directing “terrible.”

According to TMZ, an official said the entire production “feels like a college movie,” adding, “The set designs are just horrifying, it’s not what Graceland looks like.”

However, Priscilla has always been very supportive of the project.

She said of the film, “I am very excited to see the masterful Sofia Coppola’s interpretation of my book. She has such an extraordinary perspective and I have always been such an admirer of her work.

“I’m sure this film will take everyone on an emotional journey.”

The film will be released on November 3.
