My neighbors are mad I got the neighborhood dog Olympics canceled
- An annual HOA event was canceled for reasons involving a competitive Poodle
- Before the cancellation, a ‘No Competition Dogs’ rule was introduced
- The committee and the puppy owner agreed to a compromise that the user did not like
A Reddit user asks if he’s to blame for the cancellation of the annual Dog Olympics in his neighborhood.
The person explains on the AITA Reddit page: ‘5-6 years ago my HOA decided that our neighborhood was boring and encouraged people to come up with ideas/activities to liven things up. With this my Pup Olympics was born.’
All was great fun until a competitive Poodle came into the neighborhood and “ruined the Puppy Olympics” but captured all the categories of the previous year’s competition, except the Poodle for which it was ineligible because it was not a senior dog.
As a result, the Olympic Committee decided on a “No Competition Dogs” rule, but the poodle owner didn’t take the news well, showing up at an HOA meeting and “going ballistic.” The HOA relented and agreed that the poodle could not be excluded.
A compromise was made that would allow the poodle to compete in 8 of the 10 events, but the Reddit user disagreed and opted to cancel the entire competition instead.
The poodle owner allegedly sent the Reddit user “vindictive” messages, claiming the cancellation was a personal attack.
A Reddit user posted a message asking what people thought he was the reason his HOA’s annual Pup Olympics were canceled after a competitive poodle made its debut
A ‘No Competition Dogs’ rule was implemented until the HOA committee decided in favor of the poodle owner to remove it
The Puppy Olympics was a popular event that took place at the HOAs for laughs and fun as the participants were not professional.
Dog Olympics are becoming increasingly common in humane societies. Dog shows and exhibits remain popular in the US
Several people stick with the Reddit user who admitted that this “is a stupid problem.”
One person said: ‘NTA. If you have a race for neighborhood kids and an Olympic gold medalist shows up, that’s an AH move.”
They continued: ‘This is no different, and the fact that the owner does not understand why her loved one is not allowed to dominate the amateur competitions shows a major lack of awareness.’
Another person commented, “I came here to call you the AH, but what kind of unhinged ultra-competitive lunatic moved into your neighborhood?
They continued: ‘the Olympics are for amateurs and poodle lady is a professional who sucks all the fun out of you. N.T.A.’
Another user who stated that the Reddit poster is “definitely NTA” made two suggestions on what to do moving forward.
The first is: ‘remove all cash prizes for people, let the cash prize for winning go to the shelter: “this donation courtesy of Brutus Bumblewoof, Best in Show.”
The second: ‘make a big deal about second place winners.’
Social media is supporting the Reddit user for his actions and has criticized the HOA and the poodle’s owner
Poodles are beautiful animals that can be worth between $600 and $2,000 to adopt. The breed has also achieved several dog show wins, including one at the 2020 Westminster Kennel Club Dog Show
The Dog Olympics appear to have become a frequent event in humane societies across the country more than 20 dog shows and exhibitions will take place between this month and December 2024 in the US.
A well-known poodle in the dog word is Siba – a standard poodle that won Best in Show at the Westminster Kennel Club dog show in 2020.
Unfortunately, poodles are not cheap, and… Spot Pet Insurance reported the average cost of a well-behaved puppy in 2023 can range between €600 and €2,000.
The Reddit user did not specify what type of poodle the neighbor owned, but did say he has “a million followers on Instagram.”
