Kyle Sandilands’ former housemate claims the radio shock jock never left the house, ‘smoked cones’ and ate Paddle Pops all day

Kyle Sandilands’ former roommate has made some eyebrow-raising claims about what it was like living with the shock jock.

KIIS FM Melbourne presenter Jason ‘Labrat’ Hawkins moved in with his former best friend Sandilands in the early 2000s after the shock jock employed him on his top-rated Kyle And Jackie O Show.

Hawkins, who later fell out with Sandilands, aired his dirty laundry during an acceptance speech at the Australian Commercial Radio Awards (ACRA) last weekend.

Appearing on stage with radio host Lauren Phillips, the host unraveled some of Kyle’s very unhealthy habits during their time together.

β€œI was 18. (Kyle) didn’t drink. He never left the house. He sat there all week smoking cones and I got passively stoned,” Hawkins told the crowd.

β€œEvery night at 8 p.m. he looked at me and said, ‘Remember when I took you off the street and gave you a job? Can you drive down the street and get Paddle Pops out of the servo?”

Lauren quickly added, “I’m sure that was the old Kyle.”

Hawkins lived with Kyle for a while in the early 2000s after the radio veteran poached him from Triple M in Brisbane.

However, their long-standing friendship could soon be on the rocks as KIIS FM’s The Kyle and Jackie O Show makes an expansion to Melbourne.

Kyle and co-host Jackie ‘O’ Henderson are reportedly preparing to sign a new lucrative deal with their Australian Radio Network (ARN) bosses, set to earn a combined $200 million over the course of a 10-year contract.

This means the radio duo will dominate markets outside their Sydney-based audience and expand their reach Melbourne For the first time.

But this could leave KIIS FM Melbourne breakfast radio presenters Jase and Lauren out of a job.

On Monday, commentator Peter Ford claimed that Kyle and Jackie O are ‘replacing’ Jase and Lauren.

And the commotion could cause major friction between Kyle and Jase, who are friends and once lived together.

“There’s an interesting side story here as they will be replacing Jase Hawkins and Lauren Phillips on the breakfast show and Jase and Kyle used to live together,” Peter claimed.

β€œA few weeks ago Jase called him and he said there was no deal. But there is and it will be officially announced in a few weeks.”
