Sunrise star James Tobin’s devastating revelation after losing his mother to breast cancer: ‘It changes you as a person’

James Tobin has finally told his story about the tragic death of his mother Christa, four years after she lost her battle with breast cancer.

The Weekend Sunrise weather presenter, 43, said he was ‘forever changed’ by the death of his mother after she beat cancer just ten years before her death.

She died at the age of 68 and the heartbroken reporter soon realized it was too painful to talk about his mother’s death, reported The Daily Telegraph on Sunday.

Now James has managed to break his silence on the tragedy, saying it took him years to come to terms with her absence.

“I think anyone who has lost a parent knows that it is something that changes you, and it means that life will never be the same,” he said.

He continued: ‘It’s a part of life, but it’s a part of life that’s very difficult and it changes you as a person forever.’

James went on to say that Christa “had the rare ability to completely disagree with you and fight with you on an issue, but then you walked away, great friends.”

After four years of holding on to the pain of losing his mother, James realized that talking about her kept her alive.

He said he wanted to “honor” his mother by continuing to talk about her life, her struggles and her death.

Christa had overcome breast cancer only ten years earlier after treatment.

The mother of three, born and raised in Germany, met James’ father, Tony, an Australian who was traveling the world at the time, in the late 1970s.

After growing up in the small town of Schramberg, James said moving to Sydney would have been a huge culture shock for his mother.

Nevertheless, James said Christa was always eager to try new things and embrace all the experiences life had to offer her.

James is currently a reporter and weekend weather presenter for Sunrise.
