Jordan Pickford checks his secret water bottle cheat sheet before Mo Salah’s penalty for Liverpool in the derby… but the Everton goalkeeper is unable to stop the Egyptian’s spot-kick

Jordan Pickford consulted his water bottle cheat sheet ahead of Mohamed Salah’s penalty in the Merseyside derby, but the Everton goalkeeper could not prevent the Egyptian from putting Liverpool ahead from the spot.

Liverpool were awarded a penalty in the 75th minute at Anfield after Michael Keane was penalized for handling Luis Diaz’s cross.

Pickford hoped to be Everton’s hero with the goalkeeper aided by a water bottle with a sticker detailing the Liverpool takers’ penal tendencies.

The English goalkeeper could not prevent Salah from giving Liverpool the lead.

Salah fired an unstoppable penalty from Pickford’s left into the top corner, with the goalkeeper taking a step in the opposite direction.

This isn’t the first time Pickford has added notes to his water bottle.

Pickford was previously pictured with notes on his bottle during the February derby, a match which Everton also lost 2-0.

On that occasion, Pickford had prepared for Salah, Cody Gakpo, Darwin Nunez and James Milner.

Those notes included stats on their favored side and details of their run-up, with a reference to Salah reminding him to ‘control’ his run-up to the penalty.

Pickford used the same trick during the 2020 Euro final at Wembley.

Mailsport I imagined Pickford checking the bottle before the penalties took place, but from the angle of the footage, none of the players mentioned took a penalty.

Salah’s successful penalty helped Liverpool get past 10-man Everton at Anfield, with the Toffees having Ashley Young sent off for two bookable fouls in the first half.

The Liverpool star sealed the victory from close range in stoppage time after being overtaken by Darwin Nunez.
