Have you also eaten spaghetti wrong and drank tea wrong? Etiquette expert reveals how we REALLY should be consuming British favourites, amid fears of millions of beans spilling on toast

People across the country are consuming their favorite meals and drinks the wrong way, according to an etiquette expert.

William Hanson, director of leading British etiquette training institute English Manner, took to Instagram to show how Brits can stir their tea, eat spaghetti and pour their own wine.

Mr Hanson’s latest advice caused a stir online when he and Heinz presented a five-step recipe for eating beans on toast in a ‘quintessentially British way’, which involved keeping the tin upside down, shaking it for five seconds before turning it off. opened, and warming to a specific 64C.

Spaghetti is another favorite in millions of British households, but Mr Hanson insists there is only one way it too should be eaten: ‘more lady than bum’.

Italians, he says at the beginning of a video about his favorite method, never eat spaghetti with a spoon, so this utensil should be thrown away.

Instead, Mr. Hanson guides viewers on how to get a neat ball of spaghetti around the fork.

He says, “You turn the fork up in your dominant hand and you go into the edge of the spaghetti and against the side of the plate or bowl and twist (the strands around the fork).

“If you need to ‘go back in’ and twist the strands around the fork one more time, do so.”

Mr Hanson also believes that the majority of Britons enjoy their cup of tea in the wrong way.

In another viral video on social media, the Sexted My Boss podcast host says many make the “rookie mistake” of putting the teaspoon in a cup of tea and “going around and around… creating a vortex.”

He explains: ‘Instead, you should go back and forth with the teaspoon, moving back and forth between the six o’clock and twelve o’clock positions.

‘Give the teaspoon a gentle movement above the cup. Please do not hit the rim of the cup with the spoon.’

When asked if there is science behind his advice, he said: ‘There is logic in it and it also looks more elegant.

‘Once you’ve added a sugar cube, the back-and-forth motion moves the lump and dissolves it more quickly than a circular motion, which leaves the poor lump at the bottom of the cup as the hot drink swirls around it.

“And when the cup is fuller, the back-and-forth motion keeps the liquid from splashing, while a round-and-round motion keeps the liquid from sliding down everywhere.”

When eating a burger, Mr. Hanson says, you shouldn’t pick up the item and eat it with your hands because “nobody can put something that size in their mouth.”

Instead, the good manners guru says to deconstruct the burger with a knife and fork.

Mr Hanson says: ‘Unless you’re in the circus, no one can put something of this size in their mouth.

‘So don’t pick up the burger and eat it with your hands if it’s that thick.

‘Instead, you disassemble the burger with a knife and fork, remove the top, cut and eat like that.’

It comes after diners were controversially told this week the best way to serve the British classic, beans on toast.

This involved storing the Heinz can upside down at a temperature of around 18 degrees Celsius and shaking it for five seconds before opening to ensure ‘even distribution of the beans to the sauce’.

The beans should then be warmed on the stovetop in a stainless steel pan and served at 64 degrees Celsius, on two slices of toasted white country bread, with unsalted butter spread evenly to the crust.

Mr Hanson advised: ‘Don’t drown your toast with beans. This isn’t your local lido.’

The recipe released on social media quickly caught the attention of many beans on toast fans, especially with the choice of butter, causing controversy among the hundreds of comments.

Heinz stated online: ‘There are two kinds of people in the world: those who add butter to their beans on toast and those who don’t.’

Mr Hanson added: ‘A good butter, unsalted of course because we’re not pagans, will help it retain its crispy crunch.’

It has since sparked a fierce debate on social media, with people clashing over the perfect way to serve one of the nation’s favorite meals.

Problems that British people found with the recipe ranged from placing the beans on the bread, excluding certain ingredients and general dissatisfaction with the meal.

One user posted their own guide in response, which read: ‘1. Toast two slices of white country bread. 2. Store the can upside down and shake before opening. 3. Warm Beanz on the Stovetop – NEVER BOIL. 4. Add Lea & Perrins or Tobasco for heat. 4. Butter toast. 5. Pour Beanz over it. 6. Add mature cheddar. (Not optional)’

Another said: ‘You need to add some onions, black pepper, a little bit of medium curry powder and everything and a dash of soy sauce then you have some hand changing beans.’
