Heroic cancer patient hurled himself from grenades rolled into a civilian shelter by Hamas gunmen after grappling with one of the terrorists – and lives to tell the story

A cancer patient heroically threw himself on a grenade at a music festival where Hamas terrorists slaughtered hundreds of innocent civilians.

From his hospital bed, Raz Peri has revealed how he bore the brunt of the blast, survived being shot and fended off a Hamas terrorist in close-quarters combat.

The 20-year-old had driven to the Supernova rave in Israel’s southern desert to “feel alive again” but found himself desperately fleeing from fanatical gunmen just hours later.

Mr Peri, who has lymphoma, tried to hide from the Hamas attack in a roadside bomb shelter with a group of four other terrified bohemians.

But they soon became the target of the terrorist group’s militants, prompting him to selflessly put himself in harm’s way to save people he had never met just minutes earlier.

The cancer patient said while they were hiding, he heard some men speaking in Arabic, causing a female companion in the shelter to scream.

He told CNN he “had nothing, just my hands” and was forced into a fistfight with a terrorist who came through the door to investigate.

This led to a fierce life-and-death struggle between the pair, with the militant firing his weapon past Mr Peri, hitting one of the hidden festival goers in the leg.

During the melee, the pair ended up outside the hideout, after which the terrorist’s compatriots started shooting at them, killing the militant as Mr Peri scrambled back inside.

He added that a group of Hamas thugs then peered into the hideout with “crazy eyes” and suggested they were using drugs.

It was then, he claims, that they threw grenades into the shelter, prompting him to throw his body over them in a last-ditch effort to contain the blast, while at the same time trying to keep his muscles relaxed.

The explosion tore through his legs and arms, leaving him barely conscious, while one of the men in the shelter had his leg blown off. Time reports.

The group desperately placed a tourniquet around the tree stump and one of the men decided to leave, an action that brought Hamas back to the hideout.

They fired their assault weapons at the group, killing the man and his wife, with Mr Peri revealing he pulled her body over him and played dead.

This did not stop him from being treated even more barbarically, as the terrorists fired more bullets into the hideout, one of which passed through her body and into his stomach.

After the Hamas thugs left, the seriously injured festival goer decided to go get help while the two surviving members of the group waited in the shelter. By the time help arrived, they would be dead.

He told CNN: “When I go to town, everyone is dead. I saw girls with their pants down, I saw a knife in the body.’

While escaping, he said he came across a junkyard, with vehicles filled with festival goers who were shot by the terrorists as they tried to flee.

‘I have cancer. I go to the festival to listen to the music for my soul. What I have seen with my eyes, I can never (take away),” he said.

He finally found safety when he broke into a house and found a family with whom he huddled for safety, holding a knife in his hand as he desperately tried to stop the bleeding from his stomach.

He was later found safe and has spent the past 13 days in hospital recovering from his injuries.

The Hamas attack, which shocked the world, killed 1,400 Israelis, most of whom were civilians, while more than 200 people were taken hostage.

Since then, Israel has bombarded Gaza with airstrikes, while thousands of Israeli Defense Forces (IDF) troops have gathered at the border in preparation for a ground invasion of the area.
