Several people are missing and dozens of vehicles were wiped out when catastrophic flooding hit Italy’s Marche region after 16 inches of rain in just seven hours.
Cantiano recorded the massive amount of rain, the second worst ever for Italy, behind 496mm of rain in the Liguria region in six hours at Montenotte in October 2021.
A video shows people grabbing umbrellas up to their waists in the water as floods grip the Marche region.
There are cars around them submerged in muddy water as the rain continues to pour.
As they wade through it, the person holding the camera turns to rubble and nearby buildings that are perilously close to the flood.

Footage also shows a huge mud river in Sassoferrato and a flooded Sentino River as dirty water poured through the streets last night.
The massive flood appears to be carrying debris and hitting a building as people watch and emergency services can be seen in the background.
Another video shows more fast-flowing downpours overtaking the streets of Senigallia as emergency services arrive.
The floods that hit the Marche region are, according to ans, part of a wave of storms hitting the country.
Other regions with storms are Tuscany, Umbria, Abruzzo, Friuli Venezia Guilia, Lombardy, Liguria and Molise.

It is the latest in a long series of extreme weather events that have taken place in Italy this summer.
The total number this summer is 1,642, which is five times as many as ten years ago, according to farmers’ association Coldiretti.
Coldiretti released the figures based on data from the European Severe Weather Database.
The ESWD database covers events such as tornadoes, heavy rains, large hail, and lightning strikes.

Coldiretti said Italy’s long hot summer with drought was interrupted by heavy rainfall.
It added that the number of extreme weather events in 2022 caused more than six billion euros in damage to agriculture – 10 percent of the value of national production.
The farmers’ association added: “We are facing the clear impacts of climate change, where exceptional atmospheric events are now also the norm in Italy, with a tendency towards tropical temperatures manifesting in more frequent violent events, seasonal shifts, short, intense rainfall, the rapid transition from sunshine to bad weather, with significant temperature fluctuations endangering crops, loss of production and damage to rural structures and infrastructure’.
