Taylor Swift and Travis Kelce’s romance is NOT an NFL publicity stunt, insists the league’s marketing SVP – who claims some football fans have even had to learn who SHE is!
An NFL executive has dismissed claims that Taylor Swift’s romance with Travis Kelce is a ploy to further boost interest in football.
The Kansas City Chiefs star has a relationship with Swift, who has been at three of his last four NFL games to cheer him on — and in turn brought thousands of Swifties with him through television coverage and even into stadiums.
Some cynical views emerged on social media that the couple was not legit and was instead a publicity stunt, with Swift also taking advantage of the spotlight when her Eras Tour film was released recently.
But Marissa Solis, the NFL’s SVP of marketing, has said that if the couple is just a publicity stunt, the league isn’t involved.
In conversation with Deadline, she said, “People think maybe we had something to do with it. Absolutely not. We knew nothing.
The NFL has insisted it had no prior knowledge of Travis Kelce dating Taylor Swift
‘We knew what you knew and followed on social media. Travis went to her concert and asked her to maybe come to a game. We had no idea she would show up. And once it happened, she came to a game and in the blink of an eye, literally in a second, it went viral.
“When it happened, we were ready to start doing content like ‘Football 101 for Swifties’ to make sure Swifties who had never seen a football match didn’t understand what football was, at least the rules of knew the game.
“But this is more important: I bet you didn’t know: There are thousands of NFL fans who don’t actually know who Taylor Swift is.”
The couple spent last weekend together in New York after Swift initially flew to Kansas City for the Chiefs game against Denver Broncos.
There’s no word yet on whether she’ll be back at Arrowhead Stadium for next Sunday’s game against the Los Angeles Chargers, but she’ll have a smaller window to see him in action before heading back out on tour.
Her next Eras show is on November 9 in Buenos Aires, Argentina. After this weekend, the Chiefs are in Denver to play the Broncos on October 29, but the next game against the Miami Dolphins is on November 5 in Germany.
