Four women are allegedly kidnapped and sexually assaulted by man, 36, in Cairns

A man is accused of kidnapping and sexually assaulting four vulnerable women in Cairns.

Dennis Malcolm Johnson, 36, from Manunda, faced the Cairns Magistrates Court on Thursday charged with four counts of kidnap and three counts of sexual assault. ABC reported.

Police allege Johnson would ‘sometimes drive for hours around Cairns… with the intention of locating vulnerable female victims’.

“We will allege he used a late model SUV rental car and on one occasion he also used his new SUV personal car,” Detective Sergeant Bradley McLeish said.

A 23-year-old woman claims she fled Johnson’s parked car before flagging down a passing driver on the Captain Cook Highway near Cairns in September.

After he was arrested for that alleged incident, three other women, ages 19, 23 and 33, came forward.

The allegations occurred over a period of almost two years.

Detective McLeish said the women were all unknown to each other and the alleged assaults took place at Johnson’s home and in his car.

Johnson was taken into custody and is scheduled to appear in court on November 24.
