Terrifying images have emerged of a man being knocked over by a huge wave in the surf in dangerous circumstances, as shocked beachgoers looked on in horror.

The video was filmed on the boat ramp at Sydney’s iconic North Bondi Beach.

The Bureau of Meteorology has issued dangerous surf warnings for much of the NSW coast in recent days, from Byron Bay in the north to Batemans Bay in the south, including Sydney, which was buffeted by strong winds.

You see the daredevil stand on a rock and prepare to jump before a huge wave hits him and disappears into the wild surf.

The man surfaces moments later as the waves crash against him and he is crushed against nearby rocks.

Bewildered rock fishermen and beachgoers can watch.

‘Oh my God!’ a shocked woman shouts in the background.

“Holy bastard!” says another beachgoer.

The footage was obtained and shared by the viral video site Brown Cardigan on various online platforms.

“That must be the rock inspector at the North Bondi boat ramp,” the video caption read.

Online viewers were just as amazed after watching the heartbreaking footage.

‘Dumb ways to die!’ one commented.

Another added: ‘Faithful Mother Nature will get you a big helping of humble pie darn quick.’

Others suggested the daredevil should count his lucky stars and hope he had learned a valuable lesson.

“It’s all fun and games until he gets thrown into the rocks or can’t get back up,” one viewer commented.

Another added: ‘That’ll rip some bark off him. Never take your eyes off the ocean!’

A third wrote: ‘A person I know was killed that way, hit his head, fell unconscious and never woke up. This is more dangerous than most young children realize.”

The clip even caught the attention of Bondi lifeguard Harrison Reid.

“God, I wish that would happen to you,” he commented, tagging several Bondi Rescue co-stars.
