Why isn’t Bake Off on tonight? Fan outrage as beloved Channel 4 show is moved in a scheduling shake-up

In light of the new schedule change, The Great British Bake Off will not air tonight at its usual scheduled time.

Fans of the hit baking show will have to wait another 24 hours to watch the episode as Channel 4 will air football instead.

Italy and England will meet once again at Wembley Stadium in a Group C qualifier for Euro 2024 – after a tense penalty shoot-out between the two teams in the Euro 2020 final, which resulted in victory for Italy.

The Great British Bake Off airs on Tuesdays at 8pm, but Paul Hollywood, Prue Leith, Alison Hammond and Noel Fielding won’t appear until tomorrow night.

The fourth episode of the 14th series is now set to air at 8pm on October 18, which has sent Bake Off fans into a frenzy.

It comes after 27-year-old Abbi became the third contestant to be kicked off the show following a tough Showstopper during last Tuesday’s busy week of hiatus.

This week’s theme is chocolate, and the bakers are tasked with creating a tricky cake for the Technical Challenge.

Disgruntled Bake Off fans took to X, formerly Twitter, to criticize the delay of the next episode in favor of airing the landmark football match.

One disappointed fan asked: ‘No roasting next week??’ while another wrote: ‘Stupid football means we have to wait until Wednesday next week!’

One angry individual wrote: ‘NO ROAST UNTIL WEDNESDAY BECAUSE OF FOOTBALL HE DOESN’T CARE TO ROAST ME.’

One Bake Off fan said: “Thanks again everyone, it’s Wednesday next week because of the football, boo football.

“Chocolate week, however, means we’ll have to stock up for next week.”

Bemused user X, who noted the scheduling of many popular shows tonight, wrote: “Thoughts and prayers to everyone following Bake Off, Celeb Race Across the World, Big Brother and Married At First Sight – all clashing.” ‘

Italy will take on the Three Lions at Wembley Stadium, following England’s devastating defeat to the 2021 team during the UEFA European Championship 2020 final.

After a 1-1 draw that resulted in a dramatic penalty shoot-out between the two teams, the Three Lions’ Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bucayo Sacca failed with all three of their spot-kicks, leading to Italy winning the tournament.

That was England’s first major final since 1966 – with 25.8 million people watching the ninth most watched TV event of all time.

In March, Declan Rice and Harry Kane helped secure a 2-1 win against Italy with first-half goals in the reverse fixture in Naples, which set up tonight’s play-off.

Jules Brich will be joined by Joe Cole, Jill Scott and Gianfranco Zola to present coverage of the Euro 2024 Group C qualifier at Wembley Stadium, kicking off at 7.45pm.

The Great British Bake Off continues tomorrow night at 8pm on Channel 4.
