Believe it or not, you can have your burger and eat it too – all while staying healthy.

Registered dietitians Catherine Karnatz and Lara Clevenger from the US have revealed the healthiest options on the fast food chain’s menu, despite most items being high in saturated fat, cholesterol, salt and sugar.

The five tasty options range from 15 to 470 calories.

The first item on Catherine and Lara’s list is the apple slices, which contain only 15 calories.

But if you’re in the mood for a sweeter treat, they recommend the chain’s vanilla cone, which has just 200 calories per serving.

“This soft ice cream contains five grams of protein and 15 percent of the daily recommended amount of calcium,” Catherine told the newspaper. New York Post.

McDonald’s offers nine types of burgers and of the options available, it encourages people to order the classic McDonald’s Burger, which contains 250 calories.

“With 12 grams of protein, you can be sure to feel full and satisfied for hours when you’re on the go,” said Catherine.

Despite its low calorie density, she recommended not using it as a daily order.

Another item that passes the health check is the famous breakfast go-to for many, the Egg McMuffin.

The combination of egg, cheese and Canadian bacon that makes the Egg McMuffin comes to 310 calories and contains 17 grams of protein, 13 grams of fat and 30 grams of carbohydrates.

“This is a much healthier choice for breakfast than the fruit and maple oatmeal, which has 320 calories, but only six grams of protein and 4.5 grams of fat, with a whopping 64 grams of carbohydrates,” Lara explained.

“If you want to watch your blood sugar levels or stay full longer, the protein and fat from the Egg McMuffin is the better option.”

The fifth recommendation is the chain’s chicken sandwich, the McCrispy, which has 470 calories and 26 grams of protein.

If you’re not sold on those food options, dietitians Sarah Koszyk and Melanie Flinn also made their own recommendations for healthier McDonald’s choices in 2019.

Sarah mentioned that Happy Meals weren’t just for kids, and suggested people order one even if you’re an adult.

It contains 475 calories and offers a mix of everything on the menu.

“Order a cheeseburger, kid’s fries and apple slices, which provide a well-balanced meal, including a serving of fruit from the apples, protein from the burger and cheese and grains and starches from the bun and fries,” Sarah said.

Other dietitians revealed their healthy McDonald’s go-tos, with the Fruit and Maple Oatmeal making the list at 320 calories.
