Fallout: New Vegas director debunks popular fan theory over a decade later
Fallout: New Vegas game director Josh Sawyer has finally put a popular fan theory into practice, 13 years after the game was released.
In Fallout: New Vegasyour main task is to reach the titular location, which means the player must take a journey through a post-apocalyptic landscape, dodging all kinds of enemies.
There are plenty of ways to go about this, but to get there faster there are a number of paths you can risk your life through, including the Black Mountain and Quarry Junction – two of the most dangerous areas in the game.
Fans of perhaps Bethesda’s best for over a decade Fallout game have wondered if these areas were actually glitched due to how difficult they are to traverse, but according to the game director, that’s not the case – it was a creative decision designed for those who need to get better at the game (via GameRadar+).
No problem. When F:NV launched, players thought Black Mountain and Quarry Junction were there to keep players from coming to The Strip. Wrong. They were there for players to use Git Gud or Die. https://t.co/so95A4FDhROctober 12, 2023
On Twitter, Sawyer quoted a post about the hard drive that shed light on the fact that developers need to see how fans take advantage of missed bugs for their speed runs, saying, “This but unironically.”
A fan responded by bringing it up Fallout: New Vegasand said: “I’m not sure if this is a glitch, but the ‘crouch in Black Mountain without being noticed by super mutants to get to the free side at level one’ is a tradition in every (playthrough) at this point.” “
“No problem,” Sawyer revealed. “When F:NV (Fallout: New Vegas) launched, players thought Black Mountain and Quarry Junction were there to prevent players from going to The Strip. Wrong. They were there for players to give Git Gud or Die.”
The game director followed up on the thread, adding, “Same with Scorpion Gulch. You can get through it. You just have to pace yourself and be prepared.”
Finally, after thirteen years, fans can finally let go of this theory; it turns out you just have to get better at the game.
