Pennywise comes to life: Clown from Stephen King’s It walks the streets of quiet town and sends chilling videos daring the police to catch him

A grimly dressed clown has filmed himself taunting authorities as he wanders the streets of a quiet town in Scotland.

The man, dressed in the outfit of Stephen King’s famous creation Pennywise, left red balloons around Skelmorlie in North Ayrshire.

Pennywise was the fictional killer in King’s 1987 classic IT – memorably played by Tim Curry – who kills children approximately every 27 years in Derry, Maine.

A Facebook account for the Skelmorlie clown has been set up under the name Cole Deimos, who claims he ‘studied at Clown School’.

In Greek mythology, Deimos is the personification of fear, with the name loosely translated as ‘fear’.

It seems that the clown first started lurking in the village in 2021. His Facebook account shows images of him crawling across a bridge on all fours, staring intently at the screen while holding a red balloon.

A new video uploaded in the early hours of Thursday, titled ‘message to the media’, features a man’s voice that is badly distorted.

It mocks the police for their failure to identify him.

“Well, well, well, I made the news again,” he says. “Should I smile for the cameras with my “hideous” smile?’

It is believed that the police are aware of his antics.

He says: ‘The police have been informed, do you think I care? They’ll have to catch me first anyway – and yes, it’s a gamble.

‘They called me ‘murderer’. Why don’t you leave the jokes to me. The only thing that dies is your credibility.’
