Thrifty mum’s Aldi trolley hack wows forgetful shoppers: ‘I wish I knew this earlier’

An Aldi mum’s hack has impressed shoppers who keep forgetting to bring a coin to unlock the wheels.

Most shopping carts require coins to be inserted into them to make them go – but an old family hack has revealed a secret way to get around the obstacle.

Nikes, from Brisbane, always forgets to take her trolley coins with her and ends up buying even more from Aldi on every visit.

While mom doesn’t usually have $1 or $2 coins lying around, she always has spare change that fits perfectly in carts.

Nikes has printed a 5c and 10c coin together and inserted it into the $1 coin slot to unlock the carts.

She shared video evidence of her hack in action on social media.

“If you show up at Aldi a lot and keep buying the $2 and $1 coins, here’s a hack for you,” she said.

“Just take a 5c and a 10c coin and put them together in the dollar slot.”

The mum revealed her brother showed her how to do it growing up, but it made her feel ‘suspicious’ and ‘sly’ at times.

Many others discovered similar tips and tricks that work as well.

“You might as well use the head of a wrench!” said one.

“New Zealand 10c works in the $2 slot,” said another.

One mother added: ‘I usually take a trolley and hang them on my keys.’

“Thanks so much for this hack, I have seven of these cart tokens now because they are never on the keys where I left them,” said another.
