Excise policy: AAP protests near BJP headquarters against Sanjay’s arrest
Aam Aadmi Party workers on Friday protested near the BJP headquarters against the arrest of senior leader Sanjay Singh in a money laundering case related to alleged irregularities in the scrapped excise policy in Delhi.
Raising slogans against the party, the AAP workers tried to proceed towards the BJP headquarters on DDU Marg but were stopped by police and paramilitary personnel.
The protest came hours after the Delhi High Court agreed to include Singh’s plea against his arrest for the day.
The matter was mentioned for an urgent hearing by counsel for the Rajya Sabha MP before Chief Justice Satish Chandra Sharma and Justice Sanjiv Narula.
Singh’s lawyer said he was not provided with adequate grounds for the arrest.
On October 10, the trial court remanded Singh, arrested earlier this month, in the custody of the Enforcement Directorate till October 13.
The ED money laundering case arose out of a CBI FIR.
According to CBI and ED, irregularities were committed in the modification of Delhi Excise Policy 2021-22 and wrongful services were provided to the license holders.
The Delhi government introduced the excise policy on 17 November 2021 but withdrew it in late September 2022 due to allegations of corruption.
