Neighbourhood at war over early morning dog walkers’ annoying habit: So who is in the wrong?

A neighborhood dispute has erupted in one of Sydney’s most affluent suburbs – with ‘early morning dog walkers’ and their pets at the center of the row.

Furious northern beachgoers claim owners should be forced to take their dog poo home with them – rather than throwing it in bins on the street.

But others argued they should be allowed to throw bags of rubbish into bins – especially if the bins are sitting on the street.

“They’re at it again,” complained one man at a neighborhood group. “Early morning dog walkers gently dropping their bags of poo into freshly emptied bins.

The bins are under the blazing sun and the smell becomes diabolical. If you have a dog, it is your responsibility to take care of it and its droppings. So please take your pet’s poo home in your bin.’

Some neighbors strongly disagreed and hit out at those who care so much about their bins.

‘Would you rather they didn’t take it at all?’ asked one. “People complain about everything.”

A second added: ‘I’m not a bin princess and I wouldn’t expect someone to carry poo in a bag all the way home. Bins usually smell anyway. How lucky that the only complaint anyone has is putting a bag of dog poo in a bin!’

‘I don’t have a dog, I just don’t understand the problem, the bins smell bad anyway. At least the person cleaned it up. I’d rather poop in my bin than my shoe,” one man wrote.

One added, ‘It’s a bin. It’s in a plastic bag. Surely you don’t spend much of the week with your head in the bin. Get over it.’

While others were angry, their property was being encroached upon by strangers.

“You wonder what other people want to do with their bins,” said one. ‘You chose to have a dog – take care of it. Why should anyone else have to put up with the smell?’

Another added: ‘I have relatively clean boilers kept in the garage. I compost and recycle and the waste is generally clean and dry. The only time the bins smell is when people put their coffee cups in or when clumsy dogs pass out.’

“Just before bin collection it’s fine to use the bins as far as I’m concerned, but after collection so it has to sit there for seven days is not acceptable,” one compromised.

Some pet owners agreed on the matter.

“I have three dogs and I always take my dog home,” said one.

“I chose to adopt my dogs, I can take care of him,” wrote another.
