- Neighbors who came to help were also attacked and one was taken to hospital
- The police confiscated the three animals and are now being tested for rabies
A Texas grandmother yelled at her family not to let the grandchildren see her as she vomited blood after a gruesome pit bull attack that left her with more than 100 stitches.
Maria Perez, 55, was taking a routine evening walk with her nephew near her home in Round Rock when a neighbor answered her front door as they turned a corner.
The neighbor’s three large dogs jumped out, which immediately charged down the cul-de-sac in the Austin neighborhood toward the pair.
Doorbell camera footage captured the moment Perez’s nephew managed to jump out of their way and the three muscular dogs turned their attention on his aunt, chasing her towards a house as she desperately tried to fight them off.
“He was able to get away very quickly to get my father,” Maria’s daughter Cristina Perez, 22, said.

The grandmother needed more than 100 stitches for ‘very, very deep and painful’ bites

“And when he got away, the dogs went after her and attacked her.”
Another neighbor who saw what happened ran out to help, but she too was left in hospital with serious injuries after the animals turned their attention on her and left the pavement covered in blood.
As more neighbors intervened, Maria managed to get back to her own home where her daughter met a scene of horror.
‘My mother shouted at me: ‘Don’t come, don’t come. I don’t want you to see me like this. I don’t want the kids to see me like that,'” Cristina told KVUE.
Maria was taken to the hospital where she was treated for multiple bites while animal control officers from the Round Rock Police Department managed to grab the dogs and take them to a nearby animal shelter where they are being checked for rabies.
“Her cuts are very, very deep and very painful,” Cristina said.
“And she has over 100 stitches, so she’s very uncomfortable.”
A police spokesman said each of the dogs were mixed breeds, and it was uncertain what mix they were.
“Officers responded to the 1500 block of Merrell Cove on Monday, October 9th in response to an unprovoked dog attack involving two victims with significant injuries,” they said in a statement.
‘One victim was walking on the pavement when three dogs left a residence after the front door was left open and attacked her.
‘In an attempt to help the victim and distract the dogs, a nearby neighbor was also attacked. Both victims were transported to a local hospital for injuries.
“A seizure warrant was issued and the three dogs were taken to the Williamson County Animal Shelter to be quarantined.”
The shelter said the dogs will be quarantined until police decide what will happen to them.
‘The dogs are with us in a rabies quarantine area controlled by badge access,’ a spokesperson added.
Maria’s daughter, Cristina, 22, said she wanted to know that the dogs would ‘never, ever hurt anyone else again’

‘Our role at this stage is just to monitor them during this quarantine period and follow all the procedures we always do for an investigation.’
The dogs’ owner was among those who tried to put the animals down, but three citations were issued, one for each dog.
“We want my mother to get justice for what she endured,” Cristina said.
‘She went through something very traumatic. We want her to know that the dogs will never, ever hurt anyone else again.’
