Wales celebrated their return to Wrexham with a first-half goal bonanza, but that friendly win over Gibraltar is unlikely to feature in Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney’s upcoming Disney documentary.

Hollywood stars used their showbiz glamor to transform Wrexham, but this friendly was desperately lacking in drama.

Gibraltar were so poor that when Wales took a 4-0 lead in first-half stoppage time, a repeat of their record victory โ€“ 11-0 over Ireland here in 1888 โ€“ was on the cards .

Yet Rob Page’s men were unable to add any after the break and it will be a different matter against Croatia in Cardiff on Sunday, where Wales must realistically avoid defeat to keep their chances of qualification alive for Euro 2024.

With several key men left out of the starting XI, it was an opportunity for some of Wales’ emerging talents to shine. Charlie Savage โ€“ son of former Wales midfielder Robbie โ€“ proved an asset in the old block by flattening Gibraltar striker Tjay De Barr in the 11th minute.

Wearing a white coat, Robbie was in the crowd to watch his son make his senior international debut and would no doubt have enjoyed the moment.

Midway through the half, Wales took the lead when Ben Davies went unmarked inside the penalty area to head in Nathan Broadhead’s corner. Three minutes later, Savage’s cross was impressively met by Moore, who scored at the far post.

Broadhead added the third with a neat turn and finished before Moore won his second with another header from a cross from Dan James, who had replaced the injured Wes Burns.

Both teams appeared to take a break in the second half, with Wales making a number of substitutions and Gibraltar simply content to keep the scoreline low. Luka Modric and company won’t be as welcoming this weekend.
