Zoom is DOWN: Video conferencing service crashes for thousands of users around the world

It’s the go-to video conferencing service for millions of people around the world, but it appears that Zoom is experiencing issues this afternoon. 

According to Down Detector, the problems started at around 16:25 BST, and are affecting users around the world. 

So far, more than 40,000 reports have been logged on the US version of Down Detector, while more than 3,000 Brits have also reported problems. 

Zoom tweeted: ‘We are aware of issues currently impacting Zoom. Our engineering team is investigating this matter.’

While the reason for the outage remains unclear, of those who reported issues in the US, 59 per cent said they were having problems joining conferences, 28 per cent were experiencing an issue with the server connection, and 13 per cent were struggling to login. 

Several Zoom users have taken to Twitter to discuss the outage. 

One user wrote: ‘Zoom being down is like the adult equivalent of a snow day in a WFH world.’

Another added: ‘Zoomis down! Everyone rejoice at their sudden free time.’

And one joked: ‘ZOOM IS DOWN wow, we made it this far into the pandemic but it finally happened.’

While most people hadn’t heard of Zoom before the pandemic, it’s become the go-to video conferencing service. 

According to Earth Web, Zoom now has a whopping 350 million daily meeting participants.

Thankfully, amid the Zoom outage, there are several alternative options. 

This includes GoToMeeting, Cisco Webex Meetings and Google Hangouts Meet.
