Sydney Airport traffic delays: Joyce closed after truck crash and chemical spill

A two-lorry crash and chemical spill near Sydney Airport has caused widespread chaos for commuters and commuters.

It is understood two B-doubles collided on Joyce Drive at around 4.45am on Wednesday morning, causing liters of chemicals and oil to spill onto the road.

Emergency services and Hazmat crews remain at the scene to clean up the spill.

Joyce Drive was closed in both directions between Wentworth Avenue and O’Riordan Street for several hours.

The road has since reopened and is operating under adverse conditions.

Motorists have been warned to expect major travel delays during the morning rush hour.

Travelers heading to Sydney Airport’s domestic terminal are asked to allow plenty of extra time or consider taking the train.

“Local diversions are in place but avoid the area if you can as traffic is already heavy,” a Live Sydney Traffic alert said.

“You can travel across it both ways in opposite flow conditions, but you still factor in a lot of extra travel time.”
