Professional cleaners have shared the top interior design choices they would never make for their own homes.

The experts, who work in Purification of leaders in Auckland, said several features make it difficult to keep a clean house.

They recommended against spiral kitchen faucets, mirrors behind faucets, long shower drain inserts, stainless steel countertops, and open-plan hoods.

While some of these fixtures were aesthetically pleasing, homeowners would have to clean their homes twice as often to maintain them.

1. Spiral kitchen faucets

“These faucets look really nice and professional, but dust and dirt accumulate between the coils,” the cleaners found.

Not cleaning them thoroughly and often can cause the metal to collect green calcium deposits and dull the look of your kitchen.

2. Mirror behind the taps

Mirrored backs are extremely difficult to keep spotless as they reflect every dust particle and water stain back into the room.

It will be difficult to spray and wipe your mirror every time you need to wash your hands.

The experts, who work at Leaders Cleaning in Auckland, said several features make it difficult to keep a clean house.

3. Long shower drain inserts

Grille drains are difficult to clean because you have to remove the entire top layer.

Hair and debris easily get caught in the long chamber and collect dirt over time, making it unsanitary.

“It looks very sleek, but it smells if it’s not cleaned often,” the cleaners revealed.

4. Stainless steel table

A kitchen is often the most used room in a home and tends to become messier due to the frequency of use.

“Stainless steel requires a lot of polishing for a clean look,” said the pros. “They are best for commercial kitchens.”

It is better to choose a marble table that is easier to wipe rather than a finish that needs to be polished and cleaned regularly.

5. Open range hoods

“They collect grease and dust and it’s very difficult to reach the top to clean,” the professionals shared.

Concealed range hoods can also make the space look more cohesive.

Many homeowners and renters agreed with the professionals’ opinions, sharing their own difficult stories.

“Spiral kitchen faucets at home look so tacky,” said one. “It’s not a restaurant dishwashing station.”

“I hate my hood open,” said one woman.

“As a cleaner, I completely agree,” wrote another. “I would also add gas stove tops.”

“Glass showers and especially sliding doors are my worst enemies as a cleaner,” said one professional.
