Woman is forced to flee after huge swarm of ‘tens of thousands’ of ladybirds laid siege to her home
Woman forced to flee after swarm of ‘tens of thousands’ of ladybugs surrounds her home
- Artist Margaret Yescombe said ladybugs were worse than poisonous spiders
A woman said she was forced out of her home by a flock of birds that had surrounded her home.
Margaret Yescombe, 42, from Ickleton, Cambridgeshire, woke up on Saturday morning to find ‘thousands’ of insects had forced their way in.
She found them gathering at her bedroom window, and the swarm was so large and the insects so bold that she was forced to leave her house until they were gone.
The 42-year-old left at around 3pm and returned at 5pm, by which time, thankfully, the bugs had left by the time she returned.

Margaret, who is an artist, said: “I got up in the morning and saw them in the window.
“I was so upset because I had to put my cat inside and they swarmed over me.
“There were thousands, maybe even tens of thousands.
“They come in and they all crawl into a corner and pile in there. They make a smell when they do this.
‘They are so creepy. You don’t feel them when they land on you, so you only notice they’re there when you feel them creep up on you.
“Just scratch an itch and find another one somewhere.”

The same thing happened in 2016 and Margaret believes the birds came from a nearby farmland.
Margaret said: ‘There’s my house, a fence, a road, another fence and then farmland.
Margaret is not shy around bugs and has lived comfortably around them in the past
Artists think ladybugs are worse than poisonous false widow spiders as they are fearless and will land comfortably on people.
“I think they want shelter because there is no shade in the fields and my house is the first they come across. They always seem to come from there.

But she thinks ladybugs are worse than poisonous false widow spiders as they are fearless and will land comfortably on people.
She said: “I live in the country and I’m around bugs a lot. I had a false widow next to my toilet for years. It has a pretty bad bite but it’s held its own.
“I felt a tickle in my ear last night and I was afraid a bug had gotten in there. There was a woman who had one for years.
“Most bugs run away, but ladybugs will just land on you. They have no concept of personal space. They just don’t care.
“Last year I knocked them off the wall, but now if I see them piling up, they spray.”
