Arnold Schwarzenegger praises son-in-law Chris Pratt for being a ‘really strict father’ and reveals actor and daughter Katherine are raising their children by the same rules used by ex-wife Maria Shriver

Arnold Schwarzenegger praised his son-in-law Chris Pratt for being a “really strict dad” after revealing that the Guardians of the Galaxy star’s daughter Katherine uses parenting techniques favored by her mother Maria Shriver.

Chris (44) is married to Arnold’s eldest daughter Catherine, and the couple share daughters Lyla (three) and one-year-old Eloise. Chris also has a son Jack, 11, with ex-wife Anna Faris.

During an appearance on Monday’s episode of The View, Arnold waxed lyrical about Chris, telling host Sunny Hostin, “Chris Pratt, he’s a really strict father, and he’s a really good father and a good husband.”

Referring to his 33-year-old daughter Catherine and his ex-wife Maria, the Terminator star continued: “My daughter is fantastic, she uses all the rules my wife used. Maria has always been a fantastic mother, and still is.’

Arnold said it was Catherine

Arnold said Catherine was a “fantastic” mother to her two young daughters, Lyla and Eloise

Arnold and Maria have four children together: Catherine, Christina (32), Patrick (30) and 26-year-old Christopher. He also fathered Joseph, 26, with the family’s longtime housekeeper Mildred Baen, who was born just days after Christopher in 1997.

Speaking about how they raised their brood, Arnold told the panel: “Maria had a different approach, an American approach. I had a European approach, but not quite European, let me remind you.

“They had a strict upbringing, a good education and both parents were always there, but of course my wife was there a lot more, 80 percent of the time.”

Sunny, 54, asked the Hollywood movie star if he plans to be as strict with his grandchildren as he was with his own offspring.

“Well, that’s a good question because the bottom line is that I don’t have to be so strict now! (It’s) an adventure and I can play with them. They play with the animals and I let them ride the donkeys and the ponies, I let them play with the horses and the pigs and feed the dogs and all that stuff.

“And they love me because they have cookies and they feed the cookies to the animals and then the discipline things that my daughter has to do and my son-in-law has to do.”

“Let Chris Pratt and Kathryn have a headache disciplining them,” he joked as The View hosts burst into laughter.

“She (Katherine) talks about what I used to do … she would leave her shoes and I would say, ‘if you leave your shoes there one more time and you don’t put them in the mud room or your room, I’m going to throw them in the fireplace ” and she would say “yes, yes, dad”.

“The next time she left it there, I took the shoes and threw them in the fire and they burned and she cried, but she never left the shoes there again. That was it.

“I used to discipline them, but not with my grandchildren.” They can do whatever they want! It doesn’t matter, we’re having a great time,” he said.

Catherine has previously opened up about parenting her daughters, revealing that she does “exactly what my parents did”.

Speaking on The Jennifer Hudson Show earlier this year, she said: “For my husband (Chris Pratt) and I, it’s really important that we can just instill that sense of family and the importance of family.

“And it’s also important to give them privacy and to raise them with good values and faith and family.”
