Motorist divides opinion with claim her special mind trick helped her pass her driving test… on the fourth attempt
A woman has divided opinion after sharing a strange hack that she claims helped her pass her driving test.
The TikToker, who goes by ‘@_nvila,’ shared a video on the app, where she told viewers she passed her driving test after failing three times, and she believes it was a mental trick.
In the clip titled “The Dirty Theory: Explained” she told viewers that the hack worked for her and her friends and may not work for others – the video has already been viewed by over 63,000 people.
She explained that for the tests she failed, she made sure it looked good for each one:
“I would do a full make-up, I would make sure my nails were done, my hair would be done because I was like that picture my instructor would post on Facebook, I had to look good.

‘That was the only thing I cared about. I wasn’t actually focusing on the test, I was looking past the test.’
“I was like whatever, it’s something I have to do, I have to look good for the gram.”
She continued ‘About a week before my fourth test, I was like, I care too much after and I’m not in the moment.
“I told myself, you should care less about how you look in this test and more about what is actually going to happen in this test.
“All my friends tell me, you have to look hot, you have to make sure the examiner likes you. Low bar that might work for some people, but that wasn’t me or my experience.
“It definitely didn’t help, I failed three times. That’s what I said to myself on my fourth test, I don’t even care what I look like. In fact, I will mentally prepare that I don’t even care if I don’t pass.’
The TikToker said she hadn’t picked out an outfit beforehand and instead ‘woke up and picked a t-shirt’ off her bedroom floor that had ‘toothpaste marks on it’ and ‘last night’s dinner.
She continued ‘I wore it, I would never do that. I wore this random pair of old leggings, I’m pretty sure I had a hole in your inner thighs.
The TikToker, who goes by ‘@_nvila’, shared a video on the app, telling viewers she passed her driving test after failing three times, and she believes it was a mental trick
“I literally thought to myself that it’s okay that I don’t pass because I look like a bum.
“That mentality really kept me present because I wasn’t thinking about the next thing at all.
“Taking that pressure off and using the dirty top actually meant I was in the moment and present.
“I hope when people see this, they understand what I’m saying. It’s clearly more than a dirty t-shirt, it’s actually about what’s going on mentally – It really helped and if you have a test coming up I highly recommend it.’
She also went on to make another video, where she wrote ‘telling all my friends about the dirty theory of passing the driving test. It 100% worked for me and everyone I’ve told it to. I literally failed three times and tried this and passed with two minors!’
Commenters were divided on whether the “hack” was “so clever” or “a load of bullshit.”
One viewer wrote ‘I had my first time in the same dress I wore to my class the night before. I just washed it, it must be a lucky dress.
Another said ‘ahh you know what’s so clever, I’ll give it a try’, while someone else added ‘I wish I’d seen this about two hours ago before I failed my test.’
Someone who put the hack into practice commented ‘Oi no joke it works’, to which the original poster replied ‘I’m telling everyone and no one believes me. I’ve had about 8 people tell me it works LOL’.
However, not everyone was convinced, with one skeptical person saying: “What a mind-blowing concept.” Focus on the test to pass the test’.
Another chimed in with ‘What nonsense.’
Bayu Prihandito, a certified psychology expert and life coach said: “We would all agree that practice remains the key factor in successfully passing a driving test: the more familiar we are with a task, the easier it is it becomes that, which helps to reduce our stress and anxiety.
However, even if they are “technically” well prepared, when anxiety and overthinking get out of hand, they can become significant barriers to performance.
“This is where our mindset and psychological state also play a major role. In her case, wearing a dirty T-shirt acts as a cognitive distraction.
“By wearing something she considered ‘dirty’, she effectively shifted her focus away from the anxiety of the driving test to something more trivial, resulting in a more focused and relaxed approach to the test its driving.
