Ben Griffin shot an under-par 66 to extend his lead to three shots after 54 holes at the Sanderson Farms Championship in Mississippi.
Griffin sits at 20-under 196, holding a clear advantage over China’s Carl Yuan heading into Sunday’s final round at the Country Club of Jackson.
Three players are four shots behind tied for third, and two others are tied for sixth at 15 under, five shots back.
Ryder Cup star Ludvig Åberg is six shots off the pace after following rounds of 67 and 69 with a third-round 66, which included five birdies over the final eight holes.
Griffin followed his sterling 63 on Friday with another bogey-free round, posting six birdies, three on the front and three on the back.
“I felt like it was a good goal, try to score three on each side,” Griffin said.
“I knew it would be windy and I had to make sure I missed it in the right places.
“I felt like I left myself a lot of 20 or 30 feet, but that was on the holes I had to make, so if I missed it on the wrong side, I was going to be scrambling to try to make plays.”
The 27-year-old has yet to win on the PGA Tour and has just one top-10 finish in the entire 2022-23 season.
However, he ranked a respectable 66th in the FedExCup Fall standings earlier this week and could move into the top 60 with a win.
That would qualify Griffin for two of the tour’s marquee events next winter: the AT&T Pebble Beach Pro-Am and the Genesis Invitational.
“I was very proud of myself and how I stuck to the game plan, and I missed a few tee shots on the back nine but managed to escape, and that was always one of the strengths of my career,” added Griffin.

Yuan combined seven birdies with two bogeys for his round of 16 to stay within striking distance.
“I think I really hit a lot of solid shots. Being really smart, knowing where to leave shots, I did a really good job,” Yuan said.
“But yeah, I was happy with the way I played the course today.”
Cameron Champ shot a seven-under 65 to move up 10 spots in the standings and into a tie for sixth with Zecheng Dou (68) of China.
Champ is seeking his second victory at Sanderson Farms, after winning in 2018.
“I love the golf course,” Champ said.
“Obviously, if I can drive well here, it definitely prepares me, and I’ve been able to do that so far.
“Today I think I finally made the most of it.”
Scott Stallings (65), Luke List (68) and Henrik Norlander (68) of Sweden are tied for third at 16 under.
