NSW ED nurses are receiving VR training for stroke care

A virtual reality training program for delivering stroke care has been rolled out across New South Wales.

Developed by the Agency for Clinical Innovation and the University of Newcastle Center for Advanced Training Systems, the TACTICS VR program provides an immersive experience for emergency nurses to practice managing real-time stroke scenarios.

Based on a press release, 27 regional, rural and metropolitan hospitals in the state each received VR headsets for training. TACTICS VR would complement the NSW Telestroke Service.

Icon uses Varian’s latest cancer imaging solution

Cancer care provider Icon Group recently deployed Varian’s latest cancer imaging solution, which can capture high-quality images of a tumor in near real-time.

Icon Cancer Center Holmesglen is now using the HyperSight imaging solution on its Halcyon linear accelerator. The solution, which uses cone-beam computed tomography to deliver high-quality images, can capture tumor images in six seconds.

“In the early stages, we are already seeing great benefits for our clinical teams and patients and we look forward to rolling out HyperSight across (our) Australian cancer centers and beyond,” said Claire Smith, Icon Group Director of Radiotherapy. HyperSight, which received approval from the Therapeutic Goods Administration in February for use on the Varian Ethos and Halcyon image-guided radiotherapy systems.
