A DIY guru has shown how she turns unexpected everyday items into stunning home decor.

Geneva Vanderzeilfrom Brisbane, said ‘literally anything’ can be upcycled and has ‘reimagined’ unlikely things such as towels, stones, bath mats and gin bottles to transform them into decoration and furniture.

“Honestly, one of my favorite things is using unexpected materials to create something I love,” she said.

“It’s just so much fun to reimagine how to use things.” It’s about looking at the shape and material of something, rather than what it is currently being used for.’

To create the base of a ‘sculptural’ outdoor table, she used four Bunnings plant pots in different shapes.

She stacked them, painted them with plaster and painted them white before attaching an old table top to them. She called it one of her “absolute favorite projects.”

“I went to Bunnings to see what materials might provide inspiration,” Geneva said in one blogging after.

‘I was able to find these bowl plant pots that I thought would work perfectly for this project. When they are stacked on top of each other they form the perfect ball.’

She also placed a light bulb in an old glass brick and added a wooden base to create a table lamp.

Instead of throwing away old soda bottles, Geneva cut them in half and stacked them around a standing lamppost to give it a very trendy wavy makeover.

‘I decided to stick three paving stones together, creating one large cube. I felt like this added a bit more detail and dimension to the design.”
