In the quick scene, we are reintroduced to Sylvie, the rogue variant of Loki that so many people talk about. Loki season 1 revolved around. Since she killed He Who Remains at the end of last season, she has managed to escape. She comes out of a time gate in Broxton, Oklahoma, as the chyron tells us. Then she walks into a McDonald’s and, with a smug look, says she’d like to try everything.

What is Broxton, Oklahoma?

Broxton is a real Oklahoma town. But in the world of Marvel Comics, he featured heavily in the Thor stories of the late 2000s and early 10s. This was a period in which Ragnarok had finally wiped out the Asgardians, and Thor was coming to fight his way out of the void, only to discover that the spirits of his people had incarnated in human form without any knowledge of their divine origin.

In his search for all, Thor had to establish a base somewhere, and as he returned to the mortal plane just outside of Broxton, Oklahoma, he summoned the capital of Asgard to float to the -above. From 2007 Thor #1 until 2014 Thor: God of Thunder #24, the Asgardians maintained a special relationship with the citizens of Broxton, and Asgard remained a floating city above a small town in the American southwest. (Until an evil billionaire buys the entire city and forces the Asgardians to leave to drive Thor crazy.)

The Sylvie of Loki on Disney Plus even has an additional connection to Broxton: its comic book namesake was a citizen of Broxton (sort of, it’s complicated).

What is Sylvie doing in Broxton?

Well, at least it looks like she wants McDonald’s.

“It’s especially a tip of the hat to the fans,” Kevin Wright, executive producer on Loki season 2, Broxton spoke, “And just a little nod to (Sylvie’s) DNA.”

“It was serendipitous, in a sense,” Wright said, “when we were looking to tell the story of where Sylvie went after leaving the Citadel at the end of time, that she was really intrigued by a normal life, a little life, something calm, a town where she could make friends and do (this normal thing). Would she stay there forever? Who knows? But I think it would be intriguing ;( If you were) someone who grew up in apocalypses, you could go there, I want to go see the opposite of that, a quiet, sleepy town. And Broxton is 100% that.

What more can we expect from Broxton, Oklahoma? Will Sylvie have a short or long stay? For this, we will have to continue to monitor Loki season 2.
