Shows PM’s frustration: Delhi CM on Sanjay Singh’s arrest in liquor case
Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal launched an unqualified attack on the BJP-led Center following the arrest of AAP leader Sanjay Singh in connection with the Delhi excise policy case. Prime Minister Arvind Kejriwal said on Wednesday that this highlighted Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s ‘frustrations’.
He further said that the ruling party will initiate a legal battle against Singh’s arrest in the national capital.
The AAP national president, who visited Singh’s family members at his residence in Delhi on Wednesday, claimed that the Enforcement Directorate (ED) had found nothing during a search at his address but still arrested him.
“The ED officials searched his entire house but found nothing. However, they had him arrested in the evening. The arrest shows Prime Minister Modi’s growing desperation and frustration as the elections draw closer. The coming together of opposition forces among INDIA block has upset him. Sanjay’s arrest has only exposed Prime Minister Modi’s frustrations,” Kejriwal told reporters on Wednesday after meeting the AAP leader’s relatives.
Claiming that PM Modi was steeped in corruption from top to bottom, the Delhi CM said Sanjay Singh was one of the most vocal opposition leaders when it came to highlighting PM Modi’s ‘corruption’ and this was the reason why he was expelled from the Rajya. sabha and arrested.
“Our party is a party that does not compromise on fairness. But as we all know, the road to honesty can be difficult. If we had been as dishonest as they were, all our problems would have disappeared. There have been more than a thousand raids. conducted in connection with the liquor policy case and several people were arrested. But they have not been able to get a single cent back (allegedly laundered). Prime Minister Modi is steeped in corruption from top to bottom and I don’t think there has been any corruption. a Prime Minister who is more corrupt than him since Independence,” Kejriwal said.
“Sanjay Singh never shyed away when it came to raising his voice against Prime Minister Modi’s corruption and this is precisely why he was first suspended from the Rajya Sabha and now arrested. I fear that many more leaders could be arrested before the next Lok Sabha elections. However, Sanjay Singh is a fighter and he will persevere undeterred. We are going to court against his arrest,” the Delhi CM said.
Earlier in the day, Kejriwal termed Singh’s arrest by the Enforcement Directorate as “completely illegal”.
“The arrest of Sanjay Singh is totally illegal. This shows Modiji’s frustration. They will arrest many more opposition leaders till the elections,” Kejriwal wrote on X.
Sanjay Singh, MP, was taken into custody after a day-long interrogation by ED officials at his residence in Delhi. He was later taken to the ED office.
Singh’s party colleague and former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia was earlier arrested in connection with the liquor policy case and is currently behind bars.
Sisodia was arrested by the CBI on February 26 for his alleged role in the scam.
The case relates to allegations that the Arvind Kejriwal-led government’s excise policy for 2021-2022 enabled cartelization and favored certain dealers, who allegedly paid bribes for it, an allegation that was strongly refuted by the AAP.
The ED has so far filed five charges in the case, including against Sisodia.
