Teenager, 19, charged with causing death of lacrosse star Sadie Mauro, 17, in horror boat crash on Cape Cod that threw her into water when they crashed into dock

A 19-year-old man has been charged in connection with the horror boat crash in Cape Cod that killed 17-year-old lacrosse star Sadie Mauro.

David Sullivan is facing multiple charges in connection with the death of the Dover-Sherborn Regional High School senior in the July 21 boating accident.

Mauro was one of six people on board a boat that crashed into the jetty at the entrance to Sesuit Harbor in Dennis that evening at around 9pm.

She was thrown into the water and her body was recovered at Cold Storage Beach after a multi-agency search. Two others were seriously injured.

Sullivan is charged with causing death of a person by operating a vessel or boat under the influence of intoxicating liquor, reckless or negligent operation of a vessel causing death, being a minor in possession of alcohol, possession of forged RMV documents and two counts of operating a vessel under the influence of intoxicating liquor causing serious bodily harm, the Boston sphere reports.

David Sullivan has been arrested in connection with Mauro’s death on July 21 and will be arraigned on October 10.

The newspaper said a statement from the office of Cape and Islands District Attorney Robert J. Galibois confirmed the charges but did not mention Mauro by name.

It was also stated that two other people suffered ‘serious bodily injuries’ in the accident.

The statement added: “The District Attorney’s Office would like to express its deepest condolences to the family and loved ones of the deceased 17-year-old.”

Sullivan is scheduled to be arraigned in Barnstable Superior Court on October 10.

Mauro was an aspiring lacrosse player and dreamed of playing in college. She excelled as a midfielder and competed in the State Championships earlier this year.

Prior to her tragic death, she wrote on her recruiting page about her aspirations to continue playing, “I can’t wait to continue my athletic and academic career collegiately!”

Her body was recovered more than three hours after the devastating impact after a joint effort by U.S. Coast Guard rescuers, state and local law enforcement agencies, a regional dive team and local firefighters.

Dispatchers from Dennis Fire and Emergency described how they first received a call from someone ‘yelling’ on the boat.

Initially, responders were told that no one was in the water before it was discovered that Mauro was missing. She was finally located around 11:20 PM following the response of multiple agencies and the use of sonar.

A preliminary investigation revealed the vessel was equipped with two 250-horsepower outboard motors with an Alabama registration, according to the Cape and Islands District Attorney’s Office. The investigation became a criminal investigation in early August.
