Matt Gaetz threatens to try AGAIN to kick Kevin McCarthy out as chairman: Florida Republican accused of siding with Democrats as he claims Biden is seizing GOP leader’s ‘lunch money’ over funding Ukraine

  • Gaetz threatened McCarthy again in a speech from the House of Representatives
  • Alleged that McCarthy conspired with Biden over a ‘secret’ deal with Ukraine
  • Gaetz’s critics have vilified him for siding with Democrats

Matt Gaetz has again threatened to try to oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House of Representatives, accusing him of colluding with Joe Biden in a bitter fight over Ukraine financing and government spending.

The Florida Republican accused McCarthy of making a “secret side deal” with Joe Biden over money being sent to Kiev, while he stopped short of filing a “motion to dismiss the Republican leader.”

He said he would formally introduce the bid later this week and hinted he has support from colleagues.

The firebrand lawmaker has been critical of McCarthy during negotiations to avoid a government shutdown and has led a conservative Republican uprising.

“It’s going to be difficult for my Republican friends to continue calling President Biden ‘weak’ while he continues to take Speaker McCarthy’s lunch money in every negotiation,” Gaetz said on the House floor.

Matt Gaetz has again threatened to try to oust Kevin McCarthy as Speaker of the House of Representatives, but said he would wait until later this week.

“It’s becoming increasingly clear who the Speaker of the House of Representatives is already working for, and it’s not the Republican conference,” he added.

Only one member would need to make a motion to leave, and Gaetz would need just four Republicans and all Democrats to join him to be successful.

The lower standards for removing the chairman were part of a deal McCarthy’s critics struck during his 15 votes to take the gavel.

Colleagues are angry with hardline Gaetz, and reports suggest his colleagues want to speed up the ethics investigation into him to try to expel him from Congress.

California Republican Rep. Tom McClintock said Monday, “I cannot imagine a more counterproductive and self-destructive course of action.”

Former Chairman Newt Gingrich also wondered, “Is Gaetz secretly an agent for the Democratic Party?” No one else is doing as much to undermine, weaken and paralyze the House Republican Party.”

McCarthy hit back at Gaetz Monday morning, saying he was concerned about reports that he wanted to give Democrats subpoena power.

He told Fox and Friends that the move would “destroy” the impeachment inquiry into Joe Biden’s involvement in Hunter’s shady business deals.

“Matt has gone to the Democrats and served them subpoenas, which will only destroy any Biden impeachment inquiry we have if they vote with him… My point is, bring it on.

Gaetz also sent out a fundraising email just before his announcement, with the subject line “Leaving McCarthy.”
