Jedward have been sent death threats since calling for the monarchy to be abolished

Jedward has revealed that they have received death threats since they abolished the monarchy days after Queen Elizabeth II’s death.

The former X Factor duo, 30, took to Twitter and revealed that their views have led some social media users to send them threatening messages, but they insisted they would not be “harassed.”

The pair wrote: “Psychos send us death threats. Your threatening behavior and criminality will not intimidate us.’

They also posted a tweet doubling down on their feelings about the monarchy as they shared a graphic read: “Not My King” and wrote: “Freedom of Speech.”

The twins retweeted a post from last week saying their Irishness was one of the reasons they criticized the monarchy.

They wrote: ‘FYI, we are Irish, the country historically oppressed by the monarchy! Please study your history! We have said nothing but the facts!’

The pair received messages of support from their fans in the wake of the threats, with one user writing, “It’s so ridiculous how adults talk and interact with you, I can’t understand people, you are both such wonderful and nice people”.

Another said, “You’re entitled to your opinion, don’t worry about it,” while another said, “Death threats are never okay, I hope you’re okay, guys.”

Jedward took to Twitter on Saturday to express their views, asking the new king to “give the people real democracy.”

It comes just days after the Irish twins – whose real names are John and Edward Grimes – were criticized for sharing “insensitive” comments about the Queen’s health before she died.

Despite the recent backlash, Jedward wanted to create even more outrage when they wrote, “Abolish the monarchy and give the people real democracy!”

They followed with a second tweet which read: ‘King Charles must return the six Irish counties during his visit to Northern Ireland – No war! Just words! It’s time,’

The brothers were inundated with reactions from the public that were unimpressed with their stance.

One follower wrote: ‘Is there any chance you guys could just be quiet? It is not for Ireland to call for the abolition of another country’s monarchy. What about Andorra, Belgium, Denmark, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Spain and Sweden?’

Other outraged Twitter users added: ‘British business has nothing to do with the Republic of Ireland or Planet Jedward, so do that too’; ‘What does this have to do with Ireland and YOU?’;

‘The monarch does not ‘rule’ in the sense of the word. We are a democracy!’; ‘Guys, you’re embarrassing yourself enough now!’; “Whoever watches out for these two clowns should be reprimanded.”

Another outraged user wrote: ‘I really hope you don’t mean that and this is a pathetic excuse to get clicks. I’m Irish and I don’t think you have anything to say about what the UK wants. Expected better guys.’

‘Happy are you Irish boys, so you don’t have to abolish a monarchy! Chill!,’ another added.

The monarch’s death was confirmed on Thursday evening, as a Buckingham Palace spokesman said: ‘The Queen died peacefully this afternoon in Balmoral. The King and The Queen Consort remain in Balmoral tonight and return to London tomorrow.”

The Queen’s son, Charles, the former Prince of Wales, is now King Charles III as the world mourns his mother, Britain’s longest reigning monarch.

Jedward’s posts come just days after the couple came under fire on social media for sharing “insensitive” comments about the queen’s health after doctors were said to be “concerned” about her health.

On Thursday, the pair took to Twitter to speculate about the queen’s condition in a series of tweets deemed “inappropriate” by outraged followers.

All of Her Majesty’s children had been rushed to Balmoral today after doctors became ‘concerned’ about her health. Hours later, she died surrounded by her family.

In one tweet, they joked that new Prime Minister Liz Truss “must have done something” during her visit to the Queen at Balmoral Castle on Tuesday – citing the decline in Her Majesty’s health.

Their first tweet was, “The Queen is Dead?”

The twins then posted another, which read, “Liz Truss must have been doing something during that visit to the Queen!”

Outraged Twitter users quickly piled on criticism when they criticized the musicians for their “really unfunny” and “inappropriate” comments.

They were furious that Jedward should be “ashamed” and argued that it was not the time for “brutal jokes” as people flocked to condemn the brothers.

With the death of the Queen, Britain and her Commonwealth realms will enter a ten-day period of mourning as millions of her subjects in the UK and abroad come to terms with her passing.

And when her son takes the throne, there will also be a celebration of her historic 70th reign that saw her reach her platinum jubilee this year – a milestone unlikely to be reached again by a British monarch.

Charles, the king, said: ‘The death of my beloved mother, Her Majesty the Queen, is a moment of the greatest sorrow for me and all members of my family.

“We deeply mourn the passing of a beloved sovereign and dearly beloved mother. I know her loss will be deeply felt throughout the country, the rich and the Commonwealth, and by countless people around the world.

“During this period of grief and change, my family and I will be comforted and sustained by our knowledge of the respect and deep affection in which the Queen was held so widely.”
