iPhone 15 Pro Max users say their smartphone speaker rattles at high volumes – with one buyer now on his third replacement

>

It is Apple’s most expensive smartphone to date and was unveiled last month to much fanfare.

But the £1,599 iPhone 15 Pro Max ($1599 in the US) hasn’t been without its problems – and now there appears to be another problem.

That’s because users have complained that their new handset’s speaker rattles at high volumes.

One customer even claimed he was on his third replacement because his iPhone 15 Pro Max “creaked like it had water in it” when playing songs and videos at “80 percent volume.”

Apple fans have already labeled the model as ‘fragile’ after one user’s ‘durability test’ revealed that the glass on the back of the phone cracked in his bare hands after being bent.

Others said their iPhone 15 Pro smartphone superheated to over 100F (38C) – which experts attributed to ‘compromises’ in the design, while there have also been complaints about dust in the components and even changing the color of the metal.

Now, a number of Apple users have taken to forums to report issues with their iPhone 15 Pro Max speaker.

Tech enthusiast ‘MilesAboveTech’ said his model was replaced by Apple because it had a ‘tinny top speaker’, only to find the new one had the same problem, but worse.

To make matters worse, he claims the second replacement “still has the same top speaker problem.”

“For some songs and videos, when the volume is above 80 percent, the speaker rattles and creaks as if it has water in it,” he added.

“Others seem to be having this problem too, which seems very strange since the speakers on iPhones are usually great and have little to no issues.”

Another customer posted on a forum on the MacRumours website asking if anyone else was experiencing a crackling speaker problem at high volume.

‘The speaker cracking problem occurs when 1) Watching videos or listening to music at high volume 2) While making regular phone calls (high volume on speaker). However, even at high volumes, a crackling sound does not always occur,” they wrote.

‘I would say that on regular phone calls with the speaker on, the crackling sound is more common, and the crackling sound only comes through the top speaker of the earpiece.

‘Is it a defect? Should I have it replaced? Other than that the phone is great.’

Several people replied that they were also experiencing the same problem.

They wondered if it was a software or hardware problem, before speculating that a software update could solve the problem.

MailOnline has reached out to Apple for comment on the reports, but has not yet received a response.

On a Reddit forum, an iPhone 15 Pro Max user said the speaker problem “seems to be a common problem.”

In response to another customer who complained, WallStreetKernel wrote: ‘My 15 Pro Max does the same thing: it’s not very noticeable with music, but noticeable with speech, especially if the audio quality isn’t great.

“Like yours, mine does it at high volumes.

“Some people don’t hear this because they may not be as ‘tuned’ or sensitive to audio quality as we are.

“For example, I told my wife this, and she thought I was crazy because she thought there was something wrong with the speaker.”

They added that “the fact that multiple people are noticing this issue makes me think it’s a software issue and Apple needs to tune the speakers.”

Apple unveiled its highly anticipated iPhone 15 last month at the company’s ‘Wonderlust’ event in California.

The standard range of phones starts at £799 ($799 in the US) and comes with the same 6.1-inch and 6.7-inch screens that users got from the last generation of iPhones.

But the new device has a significant new screen design.

The ‘notch’ at the top of the phone, long seen as a design flaw, has been replaced by the ‘dynamic island’ used on current Pro models.

The iPhone 15 also comes with a USB-C charging port, the same port currently used to charge iPads and Macs.

It is available in five new colors – pink, yellow, green, blue and black – and has an improved camera that should enable a more powerful zoom function.

iPhone 15 Pro review: MailOnline gets hands-on with Apple’s new flagship smartphone – so is it really worth £1,499?
